Active ingredient глимепирид stimulates production of insulin with a pancreas and its receipt in blood. Insulin, in turn, reduces amount of sugar in blood. Glimepirid improves potassium exchange in cells, and also promotes prevention of process of formation of atherosclerotic plaques on walls of vessels.

Contraindications

According to the instruction, to Amaryl it is contraindicated at the following diseases:

Diabetes mellitus of the 1st type (insulin-dependent);
Diabetic ketoacidosis (a complication at diabetes of the 1st type);
Serious illness of kidneys and liver;
Diabetic coma and the prekoma preceding it;
Glyukozo-galaktozny malabsorption, insufficiency of lactase, intolerance of a galactose;
Children's age;
Individual intolerance of any component of drug;
Pregnancy and lactation.

Route of administration and dosage

According to the instruction, Amaryl should be accepted inside without chewing, just before a breakfast or during it, washing down with a plentiful amount of water (not less than ½ glasses). Drug intake shall be tied to meal, otherwise perhaps critical decrease in level of sugar in blood.

The dosage to each patient is selected the attending physician individually, depending on sugar level in blood.

Begin treatment usually with the minimum dose of drug – 1 mg a day. Depending on a condition of the patient the doctor can gradually (time in 1-2 weeks) to raise Amaril's dosage, following the scheme: 1-2-3-4-6 mg. The most widespread dosages – 1-4 mg a day.

If the patient forgot to accept standard daily rate of drug, then at the following reception the dosage should not be increased. Actions at accidental disturbance of the scheme of treatment have to be discussed with the doctor in advance.

During Amaril's use control over sugar level in blood is necessary.

Side effects

The most widespread side effect from administration of drug – a hypoglycemia (falling of level of sugar in blood is lower than norm). Besides, Amaril's use can cause the following negative phenomena:

From cardiovascular system: arterial hypertension, tachycardia, stenocardia, bradycardia;
From the hemopoietic system: thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, anemia, pancytopenia, granulocytopenia, agranulocytosis;
From a nervous system: drowsiness or sleeplessness, a headache, the increased aggression, reduction in the rate of reactions, concern, a loss of consciousness, alalias, spasms, a shiver in extremities;
From digestive organs: vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, feeling of weight in a stomach, a cholestasia, jaundice, hepatitis;
Allergic reactions: itch, urticaria, allergic vasculitis, skin rash;
Vision disorder.

Special instructions

In case of by-effects after Amaril's reception and deterioration in the general state it is necessary to see immediately behind consultation the attending physician.

During a course of treatment drug recommends to control regularly glucose level in blood and function of a liver.

Use of medicine demands the increased care during the work with difficult mechanisms and management of transport.
