General characteristics. Structure:

Active ingredient: xylomethazolinum hydrochloride of 1 mg.

Excipients: sodium digidrofosfata a dihydrate, sodium gidrofosfata dodecahydrate, dinatrium эдетат, a benzalkoniya chloride of 50% solution (in terms of a benzalkoniya chloride), sorbitol of 70%, gipromelloza-4 one thousand, sodium chloride, the water purified.

Description: Almost inodorous transparent colourless solution.

Pharmacological properties:

Xylomethazolinum concerns to group of local vasoconstrictors (decongestants) with α-adrenomimetichesky action:

causes narrowing of blood vessels mucous a nose, eliminating hypostasis and a hyperemia of a mucous membrane of a nose and nasopharynx.
releases nasal breath at rhinitises.
Отривин® it is well transferred by patients even with a sensitive mucous membrane, its influence does not interfere with department of slime.

Moreover, Otrivin® has balanced рН, characteristic of a nasal cavity. Inactive components - sorbitol and gipromelloza-4 one thousand (methylhydroxypropyl cellulose) which are humidifiers are a part of drug. Thus, the moistening formula allows to reduce symptoms of irritation and the xeromycterias arising at long use of xylomethazolinum. In therapeutic concentration drug does not irritate mucous, does not cause a hyperemia. Action comes in a few minutes and continues within 12 hours.

Pharmacokinetics. At topical administration it is practically not absorbed, concentration in plasma are so small that they cannot be determined by modern analytical methods.

Indications to use:

- acute respiratory diseases with the phenomena of rhinitis (cold)
- acute allergic rhinitis
- pollinosis
- sinusitis
- eustachitis
- average otitis (for reduction of hypostasis of a mucous nasopharynx)
- training of the patient for diagnostic manipulations in the nasal courses

Route of administration and doses:

Intranazalno.

Adults and children are more senior than 6 years: on 1 injection in each nasal course (if necessary it is possible to repeat), usually there are enough 3-4 injections a day.

 

Features of use:

It is not recommended to apply in the continuous mode more than 10 days. It is not necessary to exceed the recommended doses, especially at children and elderly people.

Influence on ability to manage the vehicle and mechanisms

Xylomethazolinum does not influence ability to manage the vehicle and mechanisms.

Side effects:

At frequent and/or prolonged use – irritation and/or dryness of a mucous membrane of a nasopharynx, burning, a pricking, sneezing, hypersecretion, nausea. Seldom – hypostasis of a mucous membrane of a nasal cavity, heartbeat, increase in arterial pressure, a headache, vomiting, sleeplessness; tachycardia, arrhythmia, sight illegibility, system allergic reactions; a depression (at long use in high doses).

Interaction with other medicines:

It is incompatible with inhibitors of a monoaminooxidase and tricyclic antidepressants.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to drug components, arterial hypertension, tachycardia, the expressed atherosclerosis, glaucoma, atrophic rhinitis, a hyperthyroidism, surgical interventions on a meninx (in the anamnesis). Children's age – up to 6 years.

With care: a diabetes mellitus, diseases of cardiovascular system, at the hypersensitivity to adrenergic drugs which is followed by symptoms of sleeplessness, dizziness, cardiac arrhythmia, a tremor, the increased blood pressure.

Use during pregnancy and a lactation

During pregnancy and a lactation drug has to be used only after careful assessment of a ratio of risk and advantage for mother and a fruit, it is not allowed to exceed the recommended dosage.

Overdose:

Symptoms: strengthening of side effects, in particular, increase of pulse, increase in arterial pressure, can sometimes be observed confusion of consciousness. Symptomatic treatment.

Storage conditions:

At a temperature not above 30 °C, in the place, unavailable to children. A period of validity - 3 years. Not to use after expiry date.

Packaging:

Spray nasal dosed 0,1%.

On 10 ml of drug in the bottle from polyethylene of high density supplied with the pompovy portioning device with a tip and with a protective cap from polyethylene. The bottle together with the application instruction is placed in a pack from a cardboard.
