Stromal keratitis

Description:

The stromal keratitis – this form of a keratitis is characterized by deeper penetration of a virus of herpes deep into of a cornea. It can lead to such complications as education on a cornea of cicatricial fabric, deterioration in sight and, sometimes, a blindness. It is considered that such form of a gerpesny keratitis is connected with a weak and late immune response of an organism on a virus. Though this type of a keratitis meets seldom, in the USA this state is considered the leading reason of formation of hems on a cornea.

Symptoms of the Stromal keratitis:

Displays of a gerpesny infection of an eye can be different. At development of a keratitis (a cornea inflammation) the irritation or eye pain can appear. Besides, at opacification of a cornea deterioration in sight is noted. Among other symptoms of a gerpesny infection there are eyes:
Hypostasis around eyes,
Dacryagogue,
Recuring of a viral infection,
Irritation of an eye,
Feeling of a foreign body in an eye,
Reddening of an eye,
Sores on a cornea,
Watery allocations,
Photophobia.

All these symptoms are not specific and characteristic also quite of other diseases of an eye therefore the doctor can just not suspect a gerpesny infection.

Reasons of the Stromal keratitis:

The reason stromal infections – a herpes virus. Transfer of a virus – a contact way, from the person affected with a virus. It is considered that the herpes virus if it got to an organism, then remains in it forever, and at deterioration in immunity a disease becomes aggravated. Therefore cold, a sunblister, surgical interventions or an injury can be a push to a gerpesny infection of an eye.

If the gerpesny infection of an eye is found in you, then the risk of a recurrence makes 40-50%.

Treatment of the Stromal keratitis:

Treatment of herpes depends on in what part of an eye the infection – in a cornea epithelium, its stroma, an iris, a retina, etc. develops.

If the viral infection affects only cornea blankets, then for treatment of rather topical administration of antiviral eye drops or ointment, or reception of tablets (an acyclovir, zovirax). Besides, in certain cases at a superficial infection the doctor can "scratch off" the struck cornea surface. After that the patient has to use some time a special contact lens that the cornea began to live quicker.

For reduction of an inflammation steroid drugs in the form of eye drops are used. Such drugs are always used along with antiviral drugs. Let's note that it is impossible to use steroid drugs at a viral infection long time, especially at patients with reduced immunity. Besides, antibiotics also are applied to prevention of stratification of a consecutive bacterial infection at a virus inflammation.

At inefficiency of conservative treatment or when process of an inflammation is too started or there were cicatricial changes of a cornea, surgical treatment in the form of a keratoplasty or a keratoplasty is applied.
