Levomycetinum

General characteristics. Structure:

Active ingredient: chloramphenicol – 62,5 mg; excipient - alcohol of ethyl 70%.

Description: Transparent, colourless or with slightly yellowish shade liquid with an alcohol smell.

Pharmacological properties:

Pharmacodynamics. The bacteriostatic antibiotic of a broad spectrum of activity, breaks process of synthesis of protein in a microbic cell (having good lipophilicity, gets through a cellular membrane of bacteria and reversibly contacts subunit 50S of bacterial ribosomes in which movement of amino acids to the growing peptide chains is late that leads to disturbance of synthesis of protein).

It is active concerning the majority of strains of the gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms steady against penicillin, tetracyclines, streptocides.

Pharmacokinetics. At external use medicine badly gets through the unimpaired skin and mucous membranes therefore resorptive action weak. Bacteriostatic action when drawing on a surface depends on the size of an affected area, amount of pus, mechanical obstacles. On average the antimicrobic effect lasts for 6 - 12 hours then putting drug should be repeated.

Indications to use:

The bacterial infections of skin caused by sensitive microorganisms, including infected burns (the superficial and delimited deep), decubituses, trophic ulcers, wounds, furuncles, nipple cracks at the feeding women.

Route of administration and doses:

Locally apply on the struck surface several times in days. Duration of use depends on the nature of the pathological process, its expressiveness reached effect.

Features of use:

In the course of treatment systematic control of a picture of peripheral blood is necessary.

Adverse effects on a fruit during pregnancy and when breastfeeding are not revealed. During treatment by drug of nipple cracks the feeding termination is not required from women in labor.

To children of the first 4 weeks of life appoint only in urgent cases.

When drawing on extensive surfaces with a concomitant use of ethanol development of disulfiramopodobny reactions is possible (a hyperemia of integuments, tachycardia, nausea, vomiting, reflex cough, spasms).

Side effects:

Allergic reactions: skin rash, itch, reddenings, puffiness of fabrics.

Interaction with other medicines:

Clinically significant interaction with other medicinal means is improbable, owing to insignificant system absorption.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity, oppression of a marrowy hemopoiesis, acute intermittent porphyria, deficit glyukozo-6-fosfatdegidro-genazy, liver and/or renal failure, skin diseases (psoriasis, eczema, fungal infections), the extensive granulating wounds (aerosol).

With care

Pregnancy, the neonatality period (to 4 weeks) and early children's age, at the patients receiving earlier treatment by cytostatic medicines or radiation therapy.

Storage conditions:

In the place protected from light, at a temperature not over 25 ºС.

To store in the place, unavailable to children.

Period of validity 2 years. Not to use after the termination of a period of validity.
