Levofloxacin

General characteristics. Structure:

Active ingredient: 5 mg of a levofloksatsin (in the form of a levofloksatsin of a gemigidrat).

Antimicrobic drug from group of ftorkhinolon, обладющийт a wide range of antibacterial (bactericidal) action.

Pharmacological properties:

Pharmacodynamics. Drug is active concerning microorganisms:

- aerobic gram-positive bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes;

- aerobic gram-negative bacteria: Acinetobacter iwoffii, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Serratia marcescen);

- intracellular parasites: Chlamydia trachomatis.

Indications to use:

The bacterial infections of eyes caused by activators, sensitive to a levofloksatsin, including bacterial conjunctivitis, blepharitis, purulent helcoma, gonorrheal and Chlamidia diseases of eyes at adults.

Route of administration and doses:

Drug is dug in in a conjunctival sac on 1 - 2 drops of solution in one or both struck eyes each 2 hours (to 8 times a day) within the first 2 days. Then each 4 hours (to 4 times a day) within the 3-7th days. Duration of treatment makes 5-7 days. At simultaneous use of several ophthalmologic drugs for topical administration it is necessary to observe a 15-minute interval between instillations. In order to avoid solution pollution, it is not necessary to touch with a tip of a dropper by centuries and fabrics around an eye. Safety and efficiency at treatment of a helcoma and gonococcal conjunctivitis at newborns are not studied. Change of the mode of dosing is not required from elderly people.

Features of use:

The drug cannot be administered subkonjyunkivalno, it is necessary to avoid direct instillation in an anterior chamber of an eye.

Eye drops as preservative contain a benzalkoniya chloride. It is not necessary to use drug during carrying hydrophilic (soft) contact lenses as this preservative can be absorbed by them and cause irritation of an eye.

It is not necessary to carry contact lenses of any type in the presence of symptoms of bacterial conjunctivitis.

Influence on ability to driving and potentially dangerous mechanisms: because of the possible vision disorders arising right after an instillation it is necessary to refuse driving and potentially dangerous mechanisms before sight normalization.

Side effects:

Local reactions: short-term burning, reddening, decrease in visual acuity, emergence of slime in the form of tyazhy; seldom – a blepharitis, хемоз, papillary growths and emergence of follicles on a conjunctiva, a syndrome of a dry eye, an erythema, an itch, pain, a photophobia and allergic reactions.

As drug the benzalkoniya contains chloride perhaps development of contact dermatitis and irritation of an eye or their combination.

Interaction with other medicines:

Special researches of interaction of a levofloksatsin in the form of eye drops were not conducted. As the maximum concentration of a levofloksatsin in plasma after topical administration is 1000 times less, than at oral administration, effects of interaction with other medicines are improbable.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to a levofloksatsin or to other hinolona, to a benzalkoniya to chloride; pregnancy, the lactation period, children's age till 1 year.

Overdose:

The overdose by drug in the form of eye drops is improbable

Symptoms: irritation of fabrics (burning, reddening, hypostasis, gripes, dacryagogue).

Treatment: to wash out clear (water) water of room temperature, with the expressed side effects to address also to the doctor.
