General characteristics. Structure:

International name: Glycyrrhiza glabra; main physical and chemical properties: ropish liquid of brown color, specific smell. In the course of storage loss of a deposit is allowed; structure: 100 g of syrup contain extract of a licorice root of dense 4 g; excipients: sugar, the water purified alcohol of 90%.




Pharmacological properties:

Roots of a glycyrrhiza naked contain glycyrrhizin, potassium and calcic salts of glycyrrhizic acid, flavonovy glycosides (ликвиритин, ликвиритигенин, ликвиритозид). Expectorant effect of drugs of a glycyrrhiza is connected with the content of glycyrrhizin which stimulates activity of a ciliate epithelium of a trachea and bronchial tubes, strengthens secretory function of mucous membranes of upper respiratory tracts.
Spasmolytic effect of drug on gladenky muscles of respiratory tracts is caused by existence of flavonovy connections among which it is most active ликвиритозид, antiinflammatory (kortikosteroidnopodobny) effect – availability of glycyrrhizic acid which is released at glycyrrhizin hydrolysis.


Indications to use:

Syrup of a licorice root is applied as a part of complex therapy at respiratory diseases (acute and chronic bronchitis, a tracheobronchitis, pneumonia, a bronchoectatic disease).


Route of administration and doses:

Syrup of a licorice root is appointed inside after food by 3 – 4 times a day. Before use drug is not dissolved, however after reception washed down with a large amount of liquid (tea or warm water).
To adults and teenagers recommend to use on 1 tablespoon of syrup, children at the age of 1 – 12 years from 1/2 tea up to 1 dessertspoon.
Duration of a course of treatment is determined individually for each patient taking into account character, severity and features of a course of a disease, stability of the reached therapeutic effect and portability of drug.


Features of use:

Syrup of a licorice root contains sugar therefore it cannot be recommended to patients for a diabetes mellitus.


Side effects:

At individual hypersensitivity to drug development of allergic reactions (rashes, an itch, a hyperemia and cutaneous dropsies) is possible.
Prolonged use of drugs of a glycyrrhiza can cause disturbances of water and electrolytic balance and lead to formation of hypostases.


Interaction with other medicines:

Interaction of drug with other medicines is unknown.


Contraindications:

Drug is contraindicated to patients on a diabetes mellitus and to persons with individual intolerance of biologically active agents which contain in medicinal vegetable raw materials.


Overdose:

Messages concerning overdose of drug were not reported.


Storage conditions:

To store in the unavailable to children, protected from light place at a temperature from 8 °C to 15 °C.

Period of validity – 2 years.
