Xylomethazolinum (eucalyptus)

General characteristics. Structure:

Active ingredient: 0,5 mg or 1 mg of xylomethazolinum of a hydrochloride in 1 ml of solution.

Excipients: a benzalkoniya chloride, dinatrium of an edetat a dihydrate, potassium dihydrophosphate, hydrophosphate sodium dodecahydrate, sodium chloride, an eucalyptus of leaves oil, sorbitol, глицерол, a macrogoal глицерилгидроксистеарат, the water purified.

Pharmacological properties:

Pharmacodynamics. Xylomethazolinum concerns to group of local vasoconstrictors (decongestants) with an alpha adrenomimeticheskoy activity, causes narrowing of blood vessels of a mucous membrane of a nose, eliminating, thus, hypostasis and a hyperemia of a mucous membrane of a nose, recovers passability of the nasal courses, facilitates nasal breath.

Effect of drug comes in a few minutes after its use and continues till 10 o'clock.

Pharmacokinetics. At topical administration xylomethazolinum is practically not absorbed therefore its concentration in a blood plasma are very small (by modern analytical methods are not defined).

Indications to use:

Acute respiratory diseases with the phenomena of rhinitis (cold); acute allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, pollinosis; average otitis (as a part of a combination therapy for reduction of hypostasis of a mucous membrane of a nasopharynx); training of the patient for diagnostic manipulations (rinoskopiya).

Route of administration and doses:

Intranazalno. To adults and children 6 years on 1 injection of 0,1% of solution of xylomethazolinum in each nasal course 2-3 times a day are more senior.

To children aged from 2 up to 6 years apply 0,05% xylomethazolinum solution on 1 injection in each nasal course 1-2 times a day.

It is not necessary to use drug more often than 3 times a day. The course of treatment at rhinitises should not exceed 5-7 days.

Features of use:

Before use it is necessary to clear the nasal courses. It is not necessary to apply more than 7 days. Usually xylomethazolinum does not exert impact on working capacity and does not complicate work of drivers of motor transport or control of moving mechanisms.

In some cases frequent and/or prolonged use of drug can lead to emergence of the side reactions breaking ability to drive the car or mechanisms.

Side effects:

At frequent and/or prolonged use – irritation and/or dryness of a mucous membrane of a nasopharynx, burning, paresthesias, sneezing, hypersecretion; rhinedema, heart consciousness, tachycardia, arrhythmia, increase in arterial pressure, vomiting, headache, sleeplessness, vision disorder; a depression (at prolonged use of high doses).

Interaction with other medicines:

It is incompatible with MAO inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to drug components, arterial hypertension, tachycardia, the expressed atherosclerosis, glaucoma, atrophic rhinitis, a thyrotoxicosis, surgical interventions on a meninx (in the anamnesis), children's age up to 2 years for use of 0,05% of solution and up to 6 years - for 0,1% of solution. Not to apply at therapy by monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO) and tricyclic antidepressants.

With care: coronary heart disease (stenocardia III-IV functional class), prostate hyperplasia, diabetes mellitus, pregnancy, lactation period.

Storage conditions:

At a temperature from 0 to 25 °C in the dry, protected from light place. To store in the place, unavailable to children. A period of validity - 3 years. Not to apply after a period of validity.

Packaging:

Spray of nasal [eucalyptus] 0,05%, 0,1%. On 10, 20 ml in the bottles of neutral glass corked by the blooming microsprayer with a raspylitelny nozzle and a protective cap. Each bottle is placed in a pack from a cardboard. Drawing the full text of the application instruction on a pack is allowed.
