Pharmacological properties:

Pharmacological group of drug – antimicrobic and antiseptic agents. Active ingredient – complex compound of iodine with polyvinylpirrolidone. At contact with an epithelium the active ion of iodine is released from a complex and interacts with amino-acid groups of cellular proteins of microorganisms, leading to formation of iodamines. Thanks to the mechanism of action the probability of development of resistance to it is excluded at prolonged use.

Drug has the expressed bactericidal effect. Shows antifungal, antiviral, anti-protozoan activity. Gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria are sensitive to drug. It is not sensitive - the causative agent of tuberculosis (Mycobacterium tuberculosis).
Effect of drug longer in comparison with drugs of inorganic iodine. It proceeds before total disappearance of the painted layer from the surface of drawing. Intensity of coloring – an indicator of efficiency of drug. Local irritative action weak.

Indications to use:

Betadin-maz:
• Prevention of infection at skin traumatization (small grazes and cuts, small surgical interventions and small burns);
• treatment of the infected trophic ulcers or decubituses;
• treatment bacterial, fungal and multi-infections of skin.

Betadin-rastvor:
• For disinfection of hands, antiseptic processing of a surgery field (skin or mucous membranes) before obstetric, gynecologic, surgeries and procedures; bladder catheterization, capture of a biopsy, carrying out injections, punctures;

Betadin-rastvor
Betadin's solution is used outwardly in not divorced or divorced look. It is impossible to use hot water for cultivation of solution, however short heating to body temperature level is allowed. Not divorced Betadin-rastvor is used for processing of a surgery field and hands before surgical interventions, carrying out injections or punctures, bladder catheterization.

• For surgical disinfection of hands: on 5 ml of not divorced Betadin-rastvora 2 times, and every portion a product in 5 ml leave for contact with skin for 5 minutes.
• For disinfection of skin: in a greasing effect not divorced solution Betadin the full effect requires drying of a product.

It is possible to use solutions 2-3 times a day.
According to the same indications for use of Betadin-rastvor it is used in a cultivation effect by tap water. When processing burns and wounds, surgical interventions for cultivation use Ringer's solution or isotonic (0,9%) chloride sodium solution. Betadin it is necessary to dissolve just before use.

The following cultivations are recommended:
• for a wet compress – 100-200 ml of Betadin on 1 l of solvent (1:5 – 1:10);
• for sedentary or local trays: 40 ml of Betadin on 1 l of solvent (1:25);
• for a preoperative bathtub: 10 ml of Betadin on 1 l of solvent (1:100);
• for a hygienic bathtub: 10 ml of Betadin on 10 l of solvent (1:1000);
• for syringings, irrigations of peritoneal area, urological irrigations, before introduction of an intrauterine contraceptive - 4 ml of Betadin on 1 l of solvent (1:25);
• for irrigation in posledstviioperatsionny or the chronic and current wounds: 5-50 ml of Betadin on 100 ml of solvent (1:20; 1:2);
• for irrigations of an oral cavity, traumatologic or orthopedic irrigations: 10 ml of Betadin on 1 l of solvent (1:100).

Features of use:

Pregnancy:
Betadin's use is recommended during feeding by a breast or pregnancies only in case of presence of absolute indications and only at small doses. The soaked-up iodine gets into breast milk and through a transplacental barrier. At a lactation the content of iodine in breast milk is more, than a serumal indicator therefore when using Betadin's at pregnant women breastfeeding is stopped. Use to pregnant women and nursing mothers povidone-iodine can provoke a tranzitorny hyperthyroidism at newborn (fruit). At the same time it is recommended to inspect the kid on function of a thyroid gland.

Side effects:

Reactions of allergic character on skin and mucous are possible (a hyperemia, an itch, rash). At the predisposed diseased the hyperthyroidism induced by iodine can develop. Seldom – acute generalized reactions with suffocation and/or hypotension (anaphylactic reactions). Dermatitis with development of psoriazopodobny elements is possible. Drawing a product at heavy burns or wounds can provoke negative reactions from electrolytic exchange to extensive sites (increase in level of sodium in blood serum), a metabolic acidosis, osmolarity changes, a renal failure (including a possibility of an acute renal failure).

Interaction with other medicines:

The combination of peroxide of hydrogen and Betadin for processing of wounds as it negatively exerts impact on efficiency of both antiseptic agents is not recommended. Also it is impossible to use Betadin's combination with products which part are таулоридин, enzymes or silver. When mixing with mercury-containing products alkaline mercuric iodide therefore this combination is not allowed is formed. The low performance of a product can be compensated by increase in a dosage as povidone-iodine reacts with organic unsaturated complexes and proteins. Betadin to the patients accepting lithium-containing means is not recommended to appoint. It is necessary to avoid long use of a product on the big areas of skin and mucous.

Contraindications:

Hyperthyroidism;
• dysfunctions or adenoma of a thyroid gland (local craw, colloid nodal craw or Hashimoto's thyroiditis);
• the period to or in an effect of any procedures (for example, a stsintigrafiya) with introduction of a radioiodine;
• herpetiform dermatitis of Dyuringa;
• period of pregnancy and feeding by a breast;
renal failure;
• age till 1 year;
• an individual hyper susceptibility to iodine or other components of Betadin.

Overdose:

Symptoms of iodic acute intoxication: the increased salivation, smack of metal in a mouth, throat pain or in a mouth; heartburn, hypostasis and irritation of eyes. Gastrointestinal disturbances, skin reactions, an anury or deterioration in functioning of kidneys, throat hypostasis with symptoms of secondary asphyxia, a circulatory unefficiency, a hypernatremia, a metabolic acidosis, a fluid lungs are possible.

Treatment: the symptomatic or supporting means under control of function of a thyroid gland and kidneys, balance of electrolytes.
At intoxication the iodine which is accidentally accepted inside the urgent gastric lavage (sodium thiosulphate of 5% solution), purpose of the food rich with protein and starch is necessary (for example, starch solution in milk). At need introduction sodium thiosulphate solution (10 ml of 10%) is entered by intravenously bucketed 3 hours. Against the background of treatment the careful research of functions of a thyroid gland for the purpose of timely diagnosis of a hyperthyroidism which can be caused by povidlon-iodine is shown.
