General characteristics. Structure:

Active ingredients: 16 mg of metronidazole of benzoate equivalent to 10 mg of metronidazole; 2,5 mg of a hlorgeksidin of a gluconate.

Excipients: carbomer 940 P, propylene glycol, the water purified.

Antimicrobic and antiseptic agent for local use in dental practice for the purpose of treatment and prevention infectious воспательных oral cavity diseases.

Pharmacological properties:

Pharmacodynamics. Antimicrobic action is caused by effects of metronidazole which is to nitroimidazole derivatives. Metronidazole oppresses a chain of formation of nucleic acids that causes death of the microbic agent. Bactericidal action is shown concerning protozoa and sporo-and asporous obligate anaerobic microorganisms.

Bactericidal properties of drug are connected also with effects of a hlorgeksidin who belongs to derivatives of guanyl guanidine and has wide antimicrobic activity. In the presence of pus and blood high pharmacological activity remains. Works against gram(s) and grams (+) bacteria, dermatophytes, yeast, lipophilic viruses.

Pharmacokinetics. The concentration of metronidazole necessary for oppression of 50% of strains is lower than 1 mkg/ml for anaerobic bacteria which cause a periodontal disease. At topical administration concentration of metronidazole in the site of gums is much higher, than at oral administration of drug therefore reduction of frequency rate of appointment of Metrodent minimizes risk of development of system by-effects. Due to the local use, there is no absorption in an organism.

Indications to use:

Only for stomatolichesky spolzovaniye!

- Infectious and inflammatory changes of a parodont and mucous oral cavities: ulitis, acute and chronic process;
- atrophic ulitis;
- Vincent's ulitis;
- periodontal disease, acute and chronic process;
- periodontitis;
- periodontal abscess;
- aphthous stomatitis;
- a dentagra (as a result of infectious process).

Route of administration and doses:

For topical administration. After toothbrushing to apply gel on gingival edge or affected areas of an oral cavity for half an hour, after - to rinse a mouth. To use twice a day. A course of procedures – 2 weeks. Within 30 minutes of effect of gel it is impossible to eat food and to drink liquids.

Features of use:

Treatment by gel of Metrodent of the pregnant women and women nursing is not recommended (only on vital indicators).

To avoid hit of drug in eyes! During administration of drug it is impossible to take alcohol.

It is not recommended to appoint Metrodent to children up to 16 years.

Side effects:

Negative effects develop extremely seldom. The feeling of metal taste in a mouth, a headache, allergic manifestations (an itch, urticaria) is possible.

Interaction with other medicines:

At topical administration of Metrodent interaction with other medicines is minimum, however completely it is impossible to exclude a possibility of such reactions. Therefore it is necessary  to appoint with care drug along with some medicines.

Метродент increases pharmacological activity of anticoagulants and warfarin.

Metronidazole at joint reception with Disulfiramum strengthens toxic action of the last that provokes development of neurologic symptoms.

Phenobarbital and фентоин reduce antimicrobic effect of metronidazole.

Cimetidinum increases an elimination half-life and metronidazole metabolism oppresses, and increases a possibility of development of side effects of the last.

Contraindications:

Individual hypersensitivity to the making drug components.
Children's age group up to 16 years.

Overdose:

Cases of overdose are noted. Development of more expressed negative effects at long, uncontrolled use is possible.

Storage conditions:

Drug is stored in the place, unavailable to children, dry and protected from sunshine at the room temperature, but it is not above +30 degrees Celsius.
