Acalculia

Description:

Acalculia - (it is not necessary to confuse to a diskalkuliya) the neuropsychological symptom which is shown in disturbance of the account and calculating operations on the reason of defeat of different sites of a cerebral cortex.

The Swedish pathologist F. Henshen described. Arises at defeat of certain departments of bark of the prevailing (dominant) cerebral hemisphere (at hemorrhage, a tumor, a brain injury). At an acalculia patients confuse graphically close figures (6 and 9, IX and XI), write, for example, 1048 as 1000 and 48, cannot carry out oral and written operations of the account. The acalculia is often combined with touch aphasia.

Acalculia reasons:

Primary form.

The acalculia primary is connected with pathology of understanding of a digit structure of numbers, difficulties in calculating operations, not distinguishing of arithmetic signs and so forth; acts as a symptom, autonomous from other disorders of the highest mental functions; it is traced at defeat of parietal and occipitotemporal departments of bark of the left hemisphere and shown in disturbance of understanding of the space relations.

Secondary form.

The acalculia secondary is included into structure of a neuropsychological syndrome, that is can arise at other disorders of the highest mental functions (agnosia, aphasia, amnesia) or at the general disturbance of purposeful intellectual activity
1) at defeat of temporal departments of bark of big hemispheres the oral account falls apart
2) at defeat of occipital departments the figures similar on writing are not distinguished
3) at defeat of prefrontal departments purposeful activity, a splanirovannost of calculating operations and control over their performance falls apart
