Clotrimazolum ointment

General characteristics. Structure:

International and chemical names: Clotrimazole; a diphenyl - (2 chlorophenyl) – 1-imidazolilmetan; main physical and chemical properties: ointment of white color, a homogeneous consistence with a slight specific smell; structure: 1 g of ointment contains Clotrimazolum 10 mg; excipients: propylene glycol, poly(ethylene oxide)-400, proksanol-268, cetylstearin alcohol, drug OS-20.

Pharmacological properties:

Pharmacodynamics. Clotrimazolum – antifungal drug for external and topical administration, derivative an imidazole. The mechanism of action consists in braking of synthesis of the ergosterol necessary for creation of a cellular membrane of mushrooms that leads to disturbance of its permeability and the subsequent lysis of a cell. Drug causes also increase in permeability of a phospholipidic cover of liposomes, cytoplasm vacuolation, decrease in quantity of ribosomes. Besides, Clotrimazolum oppresses activity of peroxidases that facilitates accumulation in a fungal cell of peroxide of hydrogen most of which likely takes part in its destruction.
Clotrimazolum possesses a broad spectrum of activity: it is effective in relation to dermatophytes, barmy mushrooms; has antibacterial effect on staphylococcus and streptococci.

Pharmacokinetics. Drug has high penetration. At external use concentration of drug in epidermis is higher, than in a derma and hypodermic cellulose. Practically it is not absorbed in a system blood stream.

Indications to use:

Clotrimazolum in the form of ointment is appointed at the mycoses of skin caused by dermatomitseta, a blastomyces, mold mushrooms at dermatomycoses with consecutive infection (mycoses of feet, nails, etc.).

Route of administration and doses:

Ointment of Clotrimazolum is applied on affected areas by 2-3 times a day and rub. Duration of treatment is individual and depends on weight and the course of a disease, localization of pathological changes, efficiency of therapy. Usually the course of treatment proceeds up to 4 weeks and more. At mycosis of feet in order to avoid a recurrence treatment is continued within 3 weeks after disappearance of symptoms of a disease. Before application of drug of foot wash with warm soap water and, especially interdigital spaces, dry up dry.

Features of use:

It is necessary to use with care drug during feeding by a breast. Putting drug on skin in eyes is not recommended. If symptoms of a disease do not disappear within 4 weeks of use of drug, it is necessary to verify the diagnosis.

Side effects:

In rare instances at the first applications local reactions – reddening, a burning sensation, an itch which usually take place at further use of drug are noted.

Interaction with other medicines:

At simultaneous use Clotrimazolum ointment reduces efficiency of other antifungal drugs. Dexamethasone in high doses slows down antifungal effect of drug.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to Clotrimazolum or other components of drug. Pregnancy.

Overdose:

Due to the low absorption of drug its overdose at external use is improbable.

Storage conditions:

Store in the unavailable to children, cool, protected from light place.

Period of validity - 2 years.
