About otorhinolaryngology

Оториноларингология

Otorhinolaryngology is the section of medicine considering diseases of upper respiratory tracts (a throat, a nose) and ears: from – an ear, Rino – a nose, a laring – a throat. Otorhinolaryngology the long name therefore sometimes for convenience it is reduced to the ENT SPECIALIST (laring-from-rino). LOR-diseases are united in one group as anatomically ears, the nose and a throat are reported with each other, and the pathology which arose in one of these bodies surely affects function of the others. Respectively, and it is necessary to treat these diseases in a complex.

Otorhinolaryngology is of special importance also because in close proximity to ears, a throat and a nose there is a brain, and involvement in inflammatory process of brain fabric poses direct threat for life. Also the nose and a throat are entrance gate of respiratory tracts, and disturbance of breath leads to air hunger of all organism, including a brain, heart and other vitals. For this reason LOR-diseases demand the attentive relation to themselves and careful treatment.

As the throat and a nose are the beginning of respiratory system, and a throat also digestive, here "on guards" a large amount of immune lymphatic fabric as the lion share of an infection comes to an organism this way is located. Thus, nearby lymph nodes also enter competence of otorhinolaryngology: palatopharyngeal ring, adenoides.

People of any age and floor have LOR-diseases. These diseases most often have infectious and inflammatory character (you remember, a nose and a throat - entrance infection atriums), tumoral is much more rare. Infectious diseases of ears, throats, a nose are extremely widespread, and have seasonal dependence. Children are most predisposed to them. It is connected with age immaturity of the immune system of the child often incapable to cope with big infectious loading. In this regard the important place in otorhinolaryngology is given to prevention of LOR-diseases at children, however, as well as at adults.

Diseases of ears, throats, a nose are treated in both the therapeutic, and surgical way. Now are reconsidered towards toughening of the indication to the most frequent operations in otorhinolaryngology – tonsillotomies (removal of palatine tonsils) and an adenotomy (removal of adenoides). Surgical treatment is applied only when possibilities of conservative therapy are exhausted.
