Gangliosides

Gangliosides (synonym: sialoglikolipida) – the complex glycolipids which are preferential a part of ganglionic cells of nervous tissue, and also contained in blood serum, erythrocytes, tissues of a mammary gland, spleen, liver, etc.; take part in intercellular interactions, are receptors for serotonin and some toxins (cholera, tetanus, etc.); change of structure and the maintenance of gangliosides can be observed at separate morbid conditions (for example, at an amaurotic idiocy Teja-Saks).
