Absorbable gelatin sponge (haemostatics, Greek haima – blood + Greek statikos – capable to stop; a sponge – the substance absorbing liquid in large volumes) – styptic means of local action, the dry porous weight received from blood of cattle or donor blood, containing a thrombokinase, thrombin and some salts.
