Benzyl benzoate

General characteristics. Structure:

Active ingredient: 200 mg of benzyl benzoate in 1 g of an emulsion.

Excipients: a macrogoal cetostearyl ether, solid toilet soap, shampoo, the water purified.

The means applied to fight against ectoparasites including a chelotochny tick.

Pharmacological properties:

Pharmacodynamics. It is active concerning itch mites, and also head and pubic louses.

Gets through a chitinous cover and collects in an organism of a tick (or louses) in toxic concentration, causing thereby death of larvae and adult individuals; does not affect eggs.

Pharmacokinetics. Gets into upper layers of epidermis, in a system blood stream it is not soaked up. Under the influence of benzyl benzoate death of itch mites occurs in 7-32 minutes, louses – in 2-5 hours.

Indications to use:

- mange;
- head and pubic pediculosis.

Route of administration and doses:

At a mange the course of treatment proceeds 4 days. In the first day processing is carried out in the evening before going to bed after careful washing under a shower warm water with soap. The emulsion is rubbed in skin of hands, then a trunk and legs, including soles and fingers. After processing of skin it is necessary to use only fresh linen and clothes. For the 2nd and 3rd days do a break in treatment, at the same time the remains of an emulsion do not wash away from skin.

For the 4th day in the evening of the patient washes with soap and carries out rubbing in of an emulsion as in the first day, using the remained emulsion, and once again changes all linen. Hands after processing should not be washed within 3 hours, in the subsequent hands process an emulsion after each washing. In case of washing off of an emulsion from other sites of their skin it is necessary to process also repeatedly. The emulsion is completely washed away from skin for the fifth day of treatment.

At a head or pubic pediculosis of 10-30 ml of benzyl benzoate apply on a pilar part of a body for 20-30 minutes then wash away flowing water. It is desirable to rinse the processed sites the water acidified by vinegar.

The adult appoint an emulsion in concentration of 200 mg / 1, and to children up to 5 years – 100 mg / 1 for what the emulsion in concentration of 200 mg / 1 before the use is parted with boiled water 1:1.

Features of use:

Treatment of the patients revealed in one center and also contact persons, has to be carried out at the same time to avoidance of infection.

Preservation of an itch after treatment is not the indication for purpose of an additional course of specific therapy. The itch is reaction of an organism to the killed tick and products of his life activity and disappears at purpose of antihistaminic medicines and ointments from glyukortikosteroida.

After treatment medical control within 2 weeks, and in the presence of complications and longer time is necessary.

All objects which adjoined to the infected skin have to be subjected to careful processing. Bedding and linen, towels boil in solution of laundry detergent within 5-10 minutes.

Outerwear is ironed on both sides the hot iron. The things which are not subject to heat treatment are hung out on open air for 3 days. Footwear, toys and other objects exclude from use for 5 days and place in a cellophane package. Mattresses, pillows, blankets are also excluded from use for 5 days or are exposed to chamber disinfection. Upholstered furniture can be processed drugs for disinsection. In the apartment it is necessary to carry out cleaning, mopping with detergents or with addition of disinfectants.

It is necessary to avoid hit of medicine in eyes, a nose, a mouth.

At medicine hit:
- in a mouth: to rinse a mouth plentifully water or 2% warm solution of baking soda and to provide rest;

- in a stomach: the stomach is washed out by 1%-2% solution of baking soda, water mix of burned magnesia and absorbent carbon;

- in eyes: to wash out carefully water or solution of baking soda.

Use at pregnancy and a lactation. During pregnancy use of medicine is contraindicated; if necessary to apply medicine in the period of a lactation it is necessary to suspend feeding for the period of treatment.

Side effects:

Local reactions: the burning sensation, irritation of skin are possible (especially at children).

Interaction with other medicines:

Co-administration with other medicines for external use is undesirable.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to drug components. Pustulous diseases and injuries of skin. Use is not recommended to children up to 3 years.

Overdose:

At observance of the recommended route of administration cases of overdose are unknown.

Storage conditions:

To store at a temperature not above 25 °C. To store in the place, unavailable to children. Period of validity 2 years.
