Phenibutum

General characteristics. Structure:

Active ingredient: 250 mg of Phenibutum.

Pharmacological properties:

Pharmacodynamics. Phenibutum possesses elements of nootropic activity, has tranquilizing effect, reduces tension, alarm, improves a dream; extends and strengthens effect of somnolent, narcotic, antipsychotic substances.

Drug has no anticonvulsant activity.

Indications to use:

Apply Phenibutum at asthenic and alarming and neurotic states, concern, alarm, fear, sleeplessness, and also as a calmative before surgical interventions.

Appoint also at Menyer's disease, dizzinesses connected with dysfunction of a vestibular mechanism for motion desease prevention.

To children appoint at stutter and tics.

There are data on strengthening under the influence of Phenibutum of action of antiparkinsonichesky means (in connection with existence for drug of a dofaminopozitivny component).

Route of administration and doses:

Appoint Phenibutum inside after food adult on 0,25 — 0,5 g 3 times a day courses for 2 — 3 weeks. If necessary increase a dose to 0,75 g (to persons 60 years are more senior appoint no more than 0,5 g to reception).

To children up to 8 years appoint 0,05 — 0,1 g to reception; from 8 to 14 years — 0,25 g on reception. For stopping of an alcoholic abstinence syndrome appoint in the first days of treatment 0,25 — 0,5 g 3 times during the day and 0,75 g for the night, gradually reducing a dose.

For prevention of a motion desease appoint in 1 hour prior to the estimated beginning of an attack or at the first signs once 0,25 — 0,5 g. After approach of the expressed motion desease phenomena (vomiting, etc.) drug is ineffective.

Features of use:

It is necessary to be careful during the work with mechanisms.

At prolonged use control of morphological composition of blood is necessary (possibly development of an eosinophilia at administration of drug in high doses); control of indicators of function of a liver.

Side effects:

Usually Phenibutum is well transferred. At the first receptions of Phenibutum or at overdose drowsiness can be observed.

Interaction with other medicines:

Strengthens effect of anxiolytic, antipsychotic, somnolent, narcotic and anticonvulsant drugs.

It is not necessary to combine with alcohol intake.

Contraindications:

Individual intolerance of drug, pregnancy, feeding by a breast, liver failure.

Overdose:

Symptoms: the expressed drowsiness, nausea, vomiting.

Treatment: a gastric lavage, induction of vomiting, symptomatic therapy (there are no specific antidotes).
