Iodine

General characteristics. Structure:

International name: _odum.
Main physical and chemical properties: transparent liquid of red-brown color with a characteristic smell.
Structure: active ingredient: iodine; 1 ml of solution contains iodine 0,05 g.
Excipients: potassium iodide, alcohol of ethyl 96%, the water purified.

Pharmacological properties:

Drug contains elementary iodine for which characteristic is antimicrobic, the local irritating and distracting actions. When drawing on skin and mucous membranes drug causes irritant action and can cause reflex changes in activity of an organism. Getting, iodine actively influences a metabolism, strengthens dissimilation processes.

Indications to use:

Apply outwardly as antiseptic, a revellent at inflammatory and other diseases of skin and mucous membranes, to processing of a surgery field, to prevention of infection of small damages of integrity of skin, to reduction of inflammatory processes at miozita, neuralgia (shows the delaying effect).

Route of administration and doses:

At external use moisten with iodine a cotton plug which is used for processing of affected areas of skin.

Features of use:

It is necessary to be careful at use of iodine on mucous membranes as alcohol which contains in drug can cause burns, strong irritation.

 It is not necessary to apply on big sites of skin because of possible development of a burn.

Side effects:

At long use of iodine emergence of cold, small tortoiseshell, a Quincke's edema, salivary and dacryagogue, rash on skin is possible.

Interaction with other medicines:

At simultaneous use with drugs for external use which contain organic compounds the denaturation of proteinaceous components can be observed.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to iodine, especially at patients with a fair hair. Also drug is contraindicated at a furunculosis, acne rash, gemmoragichesky diathesis, a small tortoiseshell, a hyperthyroidism, adenoma of a thyroid gland, a renal failure, a diabetic ulcer of skin.

Overdose:

At overdose the phenomena of an iodism, irritation, burns are possible.

Storage conditions:

Store in protected from light and the place, unavailable to children. A period of validity — 3 years.
