Description:

Regional anesthesia is one of often used and popular types of anesthesia. At regional anesthesia there is a sensitivity switching off (including painful) any part of a body of the patient.

Drugs which are used for carrying out regional anesthesia are called local anesthetic. By the way, the same medicines are used also for other type of anesthesia - local anesthesia. At regional anesthesia local anesthetic is injected around group of nerves, providing at the same time an anesthesia of a certain region of a body of a hand, leg or, for example, all lower half of a body.

The regional block rather long on the action therefore its analgesic effect (anesthesia), as a rule, remains at several o'clock after operation.

Regional anesthesia can be carried out in the isolated option or in a combination with sedation or the general anesthesia.

There is a large number of versions the technician of regional anesthesia. The choice of the specific equipment which is carried out by your anesthesiologist will be defined by state of your health, type and duration of operation, and also individual preferences and experience of the anesthesiologist. Many patients and even doctors put an equal-sign between the concepts "operation" and "general anesthesia", considering that if the patient needs operation, then carrying out an anesthesia is automatically shown it. However such point of view is a popular belief. Many surgeries I can be performed without switching off of consciousness of the patient with use of regional or local anesthesia. It allows not only to exclude development of some serious complications of the general anesthesia, but also to get such clear advantages as decrease in volume of operational blood loss, and also continuous postoperative anesthesia.

Technically regional anesthesia is quite difficult procedure therefore, on the one hand, its performance sometimes demands big time (before half an hour), and, on the other hand, it is not always possible to gain effect of 100% of anesthesia. Anatomic features of separately taken patient, and also skill of the anesthesiologist are of great importance here. However you should not be frightened if the regional block did not turn out. Your anesthesiologist always knows what needs to be done in this case, he always has several reserve options for an exit from a similar situation. Most likely, the anesthesiologist will make one more attempt of carrying out regional anesthesia, will begin sedation or will pass to the general anesthesia.

Will manufacture several types of regional anesthesia: spinal anesthesia (spinal anesthesia), epidural anesthesia (or peridural anesthesia) and different types of blocks of neuroplexes (conduction anesthesia).

When carrying out blocks of neuroplexes the anesthesiologist to enter local anesthetic into places of their anatomic arrangement at the same time there is an anesthesia (usually it both anesthesia, and immobilization) a certain region of a body – a brush, a forearm, a hand, a shin and foot, a leg, etc.
