Description:


Noma (old names — Water cancer, Antonov fire of the person, Cancer aquaticus) — the gangrenous disease leading to destruction of facial tissues, in particular a mouth and cheeks.

The noma represents distribution of pathological process of an ulcer and necrotic ulitis on mucous cheeks that leads to very bystry destruction of soft tissues, dedentition and an exposure of extensive surfaces of jaws. The noma begins as an ulcer with a nekrotizirovanny bottom or as the ulcer originating on a gingiva of an upper jaw.


Noma reasons:


The exact etiology is unknown, but the noma is similar to a disease, the caused bacterial infection, in particular fuzospirokhetalny organisms. Refer shortage of several proteins to risk factors (for example, a pellagra) and insanitary conditions.


Noma symptoms:


On mucous membranes of an oral cavity the ulcer (an ulcer and necrotic ulitis) develops that can worsen a condition of fabrics and face bones and usually leads to very bystry destruction of soft tissues, dedentition and an exposure of extensive surfaces of jaws. The disease is connected with high incidence and mortality and generally affects children aged up to twelve years in the poorest countries of Africa. It also concerns to children in Asia and some countries of South America. Most of children get sick with a noma aged from 2 up to 6 years. 500 000 people long for estimates of World Health Organization from a noma and it is reported about 100 000 new cases annually.

Treatment of a noma:


There is no radical treatment. Sick appoint rinsings antiseptic agents, surgical treatment — a necretomy is carried out. Cauterization of an affected area, antibacterial therapy can be applied.

In the 19th century treatment consisted in strengthening of an organism: suralimentation, wine, iron preparations, and in topical administration of the cauterizing and antiseptic agents. Cauterization by red-hot iron, platinum, Paklen's thermocauter some managed to stop further distribution of process. The formed hems ordinary demand consecutive plastic surgeries.
