Asteriksis

Description:

Asteriksis is spasmodic asymmetric twitchings at a tonic muscle tension of extremities, necks and trunks.

Asteriksis's symptoms:

To reveal астериксис, hands ask to extend the patient and as much as possible to unbend brushes. Asteriksis arises only at any reduction of muscles therefore he is not at a coma. Asteriksis is not specific symptom of metabolic encephalopathy of any origin.

Asteriksis  is caused by periodic paroxysmal falling of a tone of the muscles supporting a certain pose and therefore resembles the spasmodic, clapping tremor appearing at a pulling of a hand and extension of a brush superficially. In several seconds after a pulling of a hand its sharp twitchings with the subsequent bystry return to a starting position appear. The same twitchings appear at a tonic tension of any other muscles, including language, and in hard cases even at autokinesias of extremities.
