Acetone

Acetone (Latin acetum – vinegar; synonym: dimethyl ketone) – the simplest of representatives of ketones; has narcotic and exciting effect on the central nervous system; causes chronic and acute poisonings. In an organism acetone can be formed as result of decarboxylation of acetoacetic acid which collects at disturbance of exchange of fats and carbohydrates, for example, against the background of a diabetes mellitus.
