Acanthosis

Acanthosis (acanthosis; Greek akantha – an edge, a thorn, an awn, a prickle + Greek - Usis (словообраз. a suffix) – a disease) – a thickening of an epithelium and epidermis of mucous membranes with lengthening of interpapillary shoots.

Allocate:

  • Acanthosis proliferatsionny – an acanthosis which develops because of the strengthened proliferation of acanthceous and basal cells of epidermis, for example, at psoriasis;
  • Acanthosis retentsionny – an acanthosis which develops because of the slowed-down maturing of acanthceous and basal cells of epidermis, for example, at radiation damage of skin.
