Ambivalence

Ambivalence (ambivalentia; lat. ambi – on both sides, around + lat. valentis, valens – strong; synonyms: an ambitimiya, an ambitendentnost, mental duality) in psychiatry – emergence in mental activity of antagonistic tendencies which cause inadequacy of behavior and inconsistency of thinking. Ambivalence affective (ambivalentia affectiva) – the ambivalence which is shown in the field of the emotional relations (antipathy and sympathy, hatred and love, etc.).
