Amniocentesis

Amniocentesis (amniocentesis; Greek amnion – amnion, a fetal membrane + Greek kentesis – piercing) – the puncture of a bag of waters which is carried out for the purpose of extraction of amniotic waters for diagnosis or abortion on medical indications.

Allocate:

  • Amniocentesis vulval (amniocentesis vaginalis) – amniocentesis which is carried out through a wall of a uterus and the vulval arches;
  • Amniocentesis transcervical (amniocentesis transcervicalis) – amniocentesis which is carried out via the channel of a neck of uterus;
  • Amniocentesis transabdominal (amniocentesis transperitonealis; synonym: amniocentesis transabdominal) – amniocentesis which is carried out through a wall of a uterus and a front abdominal wall.
