Peritoneal cavity [cavum peritonei – PNA (The anatomic nomenclature Parisian); cavum peritonaei – BNA (The anatomic nomenclature Basel), JNA (The anatomic nomenclature Yenskaya); synonym: a peritoneal cavity] – the part of an abdominal cavity which is set of slit-like zones between the abdominal wall and abdominal organs covered by a peritoneum, and containing the small volume of serous liquid; at women it is reported by means of mouths of uterine tubes with external environment, at men – it is closed.
