Galactosemia

Galactosemia (galactosaemia; Greek galaktos, gala – milk, milk + Greek haima – blood; synonym: an oligophrenia galaktozemichesky) – hereditary (on autosomal recessively type) the disease caused by disturbance of carbohydrate metabolism due to the lack of enzyme galaktozo-1-phosphate-uridiltransferazy (KF 2.7.7.10 – classification number (code) of enzyme on the international hierarchical classification); it is characterized by a cataract, accumulation in galactose blood, jaundice, lag in intellectual and physical development, a hepatomegalia.
