Astringents (adstringentia) – medicines which when drawing on a wound surface, mucous membranes or skin cause partial coagulation of proteins or effect of dehydration and also possess the weak anesthetizing and local antiinflammatory action (bismuth nitrate the main, oak bark broth, Tannalbinum, a tannin, etc.).
