Starvation



Description:


Starvation — the condition of an organism caused by insufficient intake of the substances necessary for maintenance of a homeostasis. Starvation happens absolute and relative; full, incomplete (quantitative malnutrition) and partial (qualitative malnutrition).


Starvation symptoms:


Except somatic influence, starvation has significant effect on mentality and on behavior of the person. Feelings become dull, memory decreases, thought processes are slowed down and broken, control over own behavior is lost, the will is suppressed, there are various visual and auditory hallucinations, the apathy alternating with short-term splashes in an acrimony and aggression increases.

During starvation both extreme exhaustion, and development of any intercurrent disease caused by insufficiency of food and decrease in immunity can be a proximate cause of death.
About a half of the population of the planet have no sufficient intake of nutrients to conduct healthy full-fledged life. The lack of many substances affects physical and intellectual development of the person.

So, shortage of protein (Kwasiorkor) is characteristic of some countries of Africa, at maintenance of the minimum necessary caloric content.

Many regions of the world have no enough some chemicals in the soil and in water that leads to a lack of these substances of the live organisms living in these regions. For example, deeply continental areas have the low content of iod in the soil that often leads to severe damages of a thyroid gland (craw) and to disturbances of intellectual development, cretinism. Many countries of the world have legislative regulation of obligatory content of some chemicals in certain products.


Starvation reasons:


    
    * Absolute starvation — differently is called scarce and is characterized by a shortcoming or total absence of the minimum quantity of food stuffs necessary for maintenance of life of an organism.

    * Relative starvation — differently is called hidden (or insufficient) and is characterized by chronic consumption of low-quality food stuffs with the low maintenance of the nutritious elements and vitamins necessary for maintenance of active life activity of an organism that causes numerous diseases and reduces average life expectancy.


Starvation treatment:


Not to lack chemicals, it is necessary to eat variously, mixing the products made in different regions of the world in the diet. For example, residents of continental areas need to use seafood regularly.
