General characteristics. Structure:

Active agent: dry extract of leaves of an ivy (5-7,5:1) 65 mg.

Pharmacological properties:

Pharmacodynamics. Prospan contains in drug dry extract of leaves of an ivy which therapeutic effect at inflammatory respiratory diseases is based on sekretolitichesky, mucolytic, mukokinetichesky, spasmolytic and antibechic properties of the glycosides which are present at it (saponins).
The action mechanism (pharmacological proved and therapeutic confirmed) which is the cornerstone of the above-named properties of extract of an ivy remains insufficiently found out.
Sekretolitichesky effect of extract substantially is explained by saponinovy character of the glycosides which are contained in ivy leaves while parasympatolytic effects of the certain glycosides which are a part of drug can quite be a basis of the spasmolytic properties which are especially shown in the bronchial tubes which underwent obstruction.
The immunohistochemical and biophysical researches in vitro showed absorption oppression β2-рецепторов α-hederiny — even in the conditions of strong stimulation — in alveolar cells of an epithelium like II.
Antibechic properties of extract are based on easy sedation which is implemented by oppression of the TsNS tussive center. However Prospan does not lead administration of drug to deterioration in the central regulation of breath.

Indications to use:

The acute and chronic inflammatory respiratory diseases which are followed by cough and formation of the viscous, hardly separated secret; acute and chronic bronchitis, especially with an obstruction syndrome; OH.

Route of administration and doses:

To adults and children 12 years are aged more senior to accept on 1 sparkling tablet 2 times a day (130 mg of dry extract of leaves of an ivy), to children at the age of 4–12 years — ½ sparkling tablets 3 times a day (97,5 mg of dry extract of leaves of an ivy).
Sparkling pill is taken in the morning, in the afternoon and in the evening, previously having dissolved them in a glass of water (about 200 ml). It is possible to apply both cold, and hot water to dissolution (for example hot drink increases bronkhodilatatorny properties of drug).

Features of use:

If symptoms of a disease do not disappear or short wind, fever, and also a purulent or bloody phlegm at expectoration develop, it is necessary to consult immediately with the doctor.
Drug in the form of oral solution contains sorbitol. If to apply it according to the instruction, the patient will receive up to 1,9 g of sorbitol at each reception.
There is a risk for patients with inborn intolerance of fructose. In that case treatment should be carried out only after consultation with the doctor.
It is not necessary to exceed the recommended daily dose.
Period of pregnancy and feeding by a breast. Data on negative influence of drug during pregnancy and feeding by a breast did not arrive. However special researches of this category of patients were not conducted. Therefore before use of drug it is necessary to weigh a ratio risk/advantage for this group of patients.
As extragent is used ethanol 30 about. % that promotes receiving therapeutic effective extract of leaves of an ivy. In the course of the subsequent drying alcohol completely is removed from extract. Thus, drug does not contain alcohol.
Children. At newborns and children aged from 1 year up to 4 years Prospan cough syrup is recommended to use drug. Drug in the form of oral solution should not be used at children under 6 years.
Ability to influence speed of response at control of vehicles or work with other mechanisms. Drug does not influence speed of response at control of vehicles or other mechanisms.

Side effects:

Drug is usually well transferred. Very seldom (less than 1 case on 10 000) the laxative effect can be shown (in connection with the content of sorbite), and also there can be allergic reactions: short wind, hypostasis of mucous membranes, skin rash, small tortoiseshell, itch.
At patients with hypersensitivity can note gastrointestinal frustration, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, an abdominal pain.

Interaction with other medicines:

Undesirable interactions at a concomitant use of drug Prospan and other medicines are still not established. For this reason drug can be used at the same time with other medicines, for example with antibiotics.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to any ingredient of drug.
Tablets, syrup: intolerance of fructose.
Solution oral: children's age up to 6 years.

Overdose:

At administration of drug in large numbers (more than by 3 times exceeding a daily dose) there can be nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. Symptomatic treatment.

Storage conditions:

To store at a temperature not above 25 °C.
