General characteristics. Structure:
Oil castor. Fat oil from seeds of the cultivated plant of a castor-bean tree, family of a spurge family.
Pharmacological properties:
Purgative. At intake it is split by a lipase in a small intestine with formation of ricinoleic acid which causes irritation of receptors of intestines and reflex strengthening of a vermicular movement. The laxative effect occurs usually in 5-6 hours. At reception of castor oil also reflex reduction of muscles of a uterus is observed.
Indications to use:
Locks. In obstetric practice apply to stimulation of activity of a uterus (at weakness of patrimonial activity).
Route of administration and doses:
As a purgative the adult - on 15-30 g (1-2 tablespoons), children - on 5-15 g (tea, dessert or a tablespoon) on reception. For stimulation of patrimonial activity on 30-40g in combination with quinine, Pituitrinum and other means.
