Magnesium sulfate

General characteristics. Structure:

Magnesium sulfate heptahydrate - 10 g, 20 g, 25 g, 50 g
Description. The colourless prismatic crystals disappearing on air.

Pharmacological properties:

Pharmacodynamics. At intake has laxative effect. Due to the bad absorbability of drug in intestines high osmotic pressure is created, there is a water accumulation, contents of intestines are liquefied, the peristaltics amplifies. Possesses cholagogue action. Is an antidote at poisonings with salts of heavy metals.

Pharmacokinetics. At oral administration it is badly soaked up (no more than 20%) in a lean and ileal gut, is exposed to a reabsorption from bile, pancreatic and intestinal juice. At a sprue and the use of the food rich with fats, absorption of ions of magnesium decreases. Communication with intracellular proteins and makroergichesky phosphates - 30%. Time of approach of the maximum concentration in a blood plasma - 4 hours. Ions of magnesium are deposited in bones, skeletal muscles, kidneys, a liver and a myocardium; in small amounts in an intercellular lymph and erythrocytes. Gets through a blood-brain and placental barrier, creates in maternal milk of concentration, twice exceeding those in plasma. Removal is carried out by kidneys and with a stake.

Indications to use:

Locks, purgation before diagnostic manipulations. Poisoning with salts of heavy metals (mercury, arsenic, tetraethyllead, barium).

Route of administration and doses:

Accept inside.
Adults - on 15-25 g of 1 times a day on an empty stomach, previously having dissolved drug in a glass
waters (200 ml).
Children are more senior than 12 years - on 10 g of 1 times a day (on a glass of water).
To children at the age of 6-12 years appoint from 5 to 10 g (i.e. from a half up to the whole volume
the solution prepared at the rate of 10 g on a glass of water).
At children up to 6 years drug can be used only on doctor's orders.
Daily doses are defined at the rate of 1 g for 1 year of life.
Use of drug in the form of enemas (50-100 ml of 20-30% of solution) is possible.
At poisoning with salts of heavy metals wash out a stomach of 1% magnesium solution
sulfate or give in 20 g, having dissolved in a glass of water (200 ml).

Features of use:

Magnesium sulfate should be accepted only in the dissolved look!
Drug should be accepted incidentally, systematic use is not recommended.

Side effects:

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, exacerbation of inflammatory diseases of digestive tract, meteorism, abdominal pain of spastic character, thirst, disturbance of electrolytic balance (increased fatigue, adynamy, the confused consciousness, arrhythmia, spasms), gipermagniyemiya in the presence of a renal failure (precursory symptoms of a gipermagniyemiya: bradycardia, a diplopia, sudden "inflow" of blood to face skin, a headache, dizziness, a lowering of arterial pressure, nausea, an asthma, the greased speech, vomiting, weakness).

Interaction with other medicines:

Reduces effect of peroral anticoagulants (including coumarinic derivatives or derivatives of an indandiol), cardiac glycosides, fenotiazin, (especially Chlorpromazinum).
Reduces absorption of ciprofloxacin, etidronovy acid, antibiotics of group of tetracycline, weakens effect of streptomycin and Tobramycinum (the laxative drugs containing magnesium should be accepted in 1-2 hours after use of the above-stated medicines).
Pharmaceutical it is incompatible (the deposit) with calcium drugs, ethanol (in high concentration is formed), carbonates, hydrocarbonates and phosphates of alkaline metals, salts of arsenic acid, barium, strontium, clindamycin, a hydrocortisone, polymyxin B, Procainum, salicylates and tartrates.

Contraindications:

The increased individual sensitivity, rectal bleeding, intestinal impassability, acute inflammatory diseases of digestive tract, dehydration, heavy renal failure, gipermagniyemiya.
With care
Heart block, damage of a myocardium.

Overdose:

Symptoms: heavy diarrhea.

Treatment - symptomatic.

Storage conditions:

In well corked container at a temperature not above 25 °C. In the place, unavailable to children.
Period of validity of 5 years. Not to apply after the period of validity specified on packaging

Powder for preparation of solution for intake. On 10 g, 20 g and 25 g in
the packages thermowelded; on 20 g, 25 g and 50 g in banks from glass melt and banks
polymeric. The thermowelded packages on 10 g place 5, 10, 20, 30, 40 or 50 pieces
together with the application instruction in a pack from a cardboard.
The thermowelded packages on 20 g and 25 g place 5, 10 or 20 pieces together with the instruction
on use in a pack from a cardboard.
Banks and the thermowelded packages without pack pack into a group container with an investment of application instructions in quantity equal to the number of primary packagings (cans or packages).
