Cough syrup with a Jacob's ladder and a licorice

General characteristics. Structure:

Active ingredients: 2 g or 5 g of a licorice root of extract of dense, 7 g or 17,5 g of a Jacob's ladder of a rhizome with roots of extract liquid.

Excipients: sugar, the water purified.

The combined vegetable means applied to treatment of inflammatory diseases of the upper  respiratory tracts which are followed by temperature increase.

Pharmacological properties:

Pharmacodynamics. Pharmacological properties of syrup of a glycyrrhiza with a Jacob's ladder are caused by existence of a complex of biologically active components which are contained in roots of a glycyrrhiza and rhizomes with Jacob's ladder roots.

Extract of a licorice root contains triterpenovy saponins (glycyrrhizin, glycyrrhizic acid), flavonoidny glycosides (ликвиритин, ликвиритозид, ликвиритигенин, etc.), pectinaceous substances.

Extract of rhizomes with roots of a Jacob's ladder contains triterpenovy saponins and flavonoids. Triterpenovy saponins of a Jacob's ladder have the knitting and sudorific effect, render hemolitic effect.

The medicines containing extract of rhizomes with Jacob's ladder roots are traditionally applied to treatment of inflammatory diseases of the upper  respiratory tracts which are followed by temperature increase.

Glycyrrhizic acid and its metabolites inhibit peripheral metabolism of cortisol and cause psevdoaldosteronopodobny effect, have an inhibiting effect on enzyme to a 11-betagidroksisteroiddegidrogenaz that leads to reduction of transformation of cortisol into a cortisone. Cortisol has mineralokortikosteroidny activity, causes reduction of potassium concentration in blood serum and increase in content of sodium that leads to a liquid delay in an organism, to increase in body weight and arterial hypertension. Likviritozid has spasmolytic effect on unstriated muscles.

The sum of flavonoids of a glycyrrhiza promotes healing of erosion of stomach ulcers and a duodenum, especially at a hyperoxemia of a gastric juice.

Indications to use:

As an expectorant in complex therapy of acute respiratory diseases.

As symptomatic means in complex therapy of dyspepsia, an uncomplicated peptic ulcer of a stomach and duodenum.

Use of this medicine containing components of a plant origin is based only on experience of traditional long-term use.

Route of administration and doses:

Apply inside 2-3 times a day after food, adding 1-2 teaspoons of syrup on ½ glasses of water or tea, or in not divorced look, plentifully washing down with water.

Course of treatment of 7-14 days. More prolonged use is defined individually by the doctor.

Before the use it is necessary to shake up.

Features of use:

Syrup contains sugar therefore this medicine is not recommended to be accepted to patients with a diabetes mellitus.

As medicine has laxative effect, with care it is necessary to apply in the presence of diarrhea.

If during medicine reception symptoms of a disease remain or there is an aggravation of symptoms (breath disturbances appear, temperature rises, cough with a purulent phlegm develops) it is necessary to see a doctor.

The patients accepting a glycyrrhiza root should not accept other means containing a licorice because of risk of development of serious side reactions (a liquid delay in an organism, a hypopotassemia, arterial hypertension, disturbances of a cordial rhythm).

Ability to influence speed of response at control of motor transport or other mechanisms. Researches on impact assessment of reception of medicine on ability to drive the car and to work with dangerous mechanisms were not conducted.

Safety and efficiency of use of medicine for children are not established. In view of a lack of data it is not recommended to children and teenagers to accept drug up to 18 years.

Side effects:

Allergic reactions at individual intolerance of components of medicine. At prolonged use the hypopotassemia, a hypernatremia, a liquid delay in an organism up to emergence of hypostases are possible, arterial hypertension, functional disturbances of action of the heart. At emergence of the undesirable phenomena reception of medicine needs to be stopped.

Interaction with other medicines:

Simultaneous use of syrup with thiazide diuretics increases risk of development of a hypopotassemia. The hypopotassemia caused by prolonged use of medicine can exponentiate toxic effect of cardiac glycosides. At a concomitant use of medicine with glucocorticosteroids increase in an elimination half-life of cortisol is possible.

Simultaneous use of syrup with the medicines reducing formation of a phlegm and also antibechic medicines since suppressing a tussive reflex is not recommended, they slow down release of respiratory tracts from a secret, worsen supply of lungs with oxygen.

The root of a glycyrrhiza can reduce action of anti-hypertensive means.

It is not recommended to apply at the same time with purgatives of a promoting effect as this combination can aggravate an electrolytic imbalance.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to medicine components. Diseases of a liver and/or kidneys, arterial hypertension, diseases of cardiovascular system, a hypopotassemia,  a diabetes mellitus, inborn intolerance of fructose, glyukozo-galaktozny malabsorption, insufficiency of invertase-isomaltase, children's age (up to 18 years), pregnancy and the period of a lactation.

Overdose:

Symptoms of overdose of a root of a glycyrrhiza are a liquid delay in an organism, the hypopotassemia, arterial hypertension, disturbances of a cordial rhythm, hypertensive encephalopathy.

Storage conditions:

General list. In the place protected from light at a temperature not above 25 °C. To store in the place, unavailable to children. Syrup contains vegetable natural components, at storage emergence of an insignificant deposit is possible that does not exert impact on efficiency of medicine. A period of validity - 2 years. Not to use after a period of validity. After opening of a bottle syrup is good for the use within three months.
