Glycyrrhizas roots

General characteristics. Structure:

Active ingredient: 5 g of a licorice root of extract of syrup, dense on 100 ml.

Excipients: sugar, alcohol of 90%, the water purified.

Vegetable expectorant drug.

Pharmacological properties:

Pharmacodynamics. Pharmacological properties of syrup are caused by existence of a complex of biologically active components of roots of a glycyrrhiza. Syrup contains triterpenovy saponins (glycyrrhizin, glycyrrhizic acid), flavonoidny glycosides (ликвиритин, ликвиритозид, ликвиритигенин, etc.), pectinaceous substances.

Glycyrrhizin has a promoting effect on activity of a ciliate epithelium and strengthens secretory function of mucous membranes of upper respiratory tracts, facilitates expectoration.

Glycyrrhizic acid and its metabolites inhibit peripheral metabolism of cortisol and cause psevdoaldosteronopodobny effect, have an inhibiting effect on enzyme 11 - beta гидроксистероиддегидрогеназу that leads to reduction of transformation of cortisol into a cortisone. Cortisol has mineralokortikosteroidny activity, causes reduction of potassium concentration in blood serum and increase in content of sodium that leads to a liquid delay in an organism, to increase in body weight and arterial hypertension.

Likviritozid has spasmolytic effect on unstriated muscles.

The sum of flavonoids of a glycyrrhiza promotes healing of erosion of stomach ulcers and a duodenum, especially at a hyperoxemia of a gastric juice.

Indications to use:

As an expectorant in complex therapy of acute respiratory diseases.

As symptomatic means in complex therapy of dyspepsia, an uncomplicated peptic ulcer of a stomach and duodenum.

Use of this medicine containing components of a plant origin is based only on experience of traditional long-term use.

Route of administration and doses:

Apply inside 2 - 3 times a day on 1 - 2 teaspoons of syrup on ½ glasses of water or tea, or in not divorced look, washing down with a large amount of water;

Course of treatment of 7-14 days. More prolonged use is defined individually by the doctor.

Features of use:

Safety and efficiency of use of drug concerning children is not established. In view of a lack of data it is not recommended to children and teenagers to use drug up to 18 years.

If during medicine reception symptoms of a disease remain or there is an aggravation of symptoms (breath disturbances appear, temperature rises, cough with a purulent phlegm develops) it is necessary to see a doctor.

The patients accepting a glycyrrhiza root should not accept other means containing a licorice because of risk of development of serious side reactions (a liquid delay in an organism, a hypopotassemia, arterial hypertension, disturbances of a cordial rhythm).

As syrup has laxative effect, with care it is necessary to apply in the presence of diarrhea.

At storage of syrup emergence of an insignificant deposit as medicine contains vegetable components is possible. Existence of a deposit does not exert impact on efficiency of syrup. Before the use it is necessary to shake up.

Ability to influence speed of response at control of motor transport or other mechanisms. Drug contains alcohol! During treatment it is necessary to refrain from driving of motor transport and occupation other potentially dangerous types of activity demanding the increased concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions.

Side effects:

Allergic reactions at individual intolerance of components of medicine.

At reception in the recommended dose and throughout the specified period adverse effects are not observed. Prolonged use (more than 6 weeks) or excessive exceeding of a drug dose can lead to a pseudo-aldosteronism that is expressed in a hypopotassemia, a hypernatremia, arterial hypertension, hypostases. Emergence of functional disturbances of action of the heart is possible. The myopathy and a myoglobinuria is in rare instances possible.

At emergence of the undesirable phenomena reception of medicine needs to be stopped.

Interaction with other medicines:

Simultaneous use of medicine with drugs of thiazide diuretics increases risk of development of a hypopotassemia. At a concomitant use of syrup with glucocorticosteroids increase in an elimination half-life of cortisol is possible.

At simultaneous use with cardiac glycosides, antiarrhytmic drugs, corticosteroids strengthening of a hypopotassemia is possible, joint reception with these means is not recommended.

It is necessary to avoid simultaneous use of other medicines containing alcohol.

 The interactions connected with existence in composition of alcohol:

- the medicines causing disulfiramopodobny reaction (feeling of heat, reddening of integuments, vomiting, tachycardia) at joint reception with alcohol:

Disulfiramum, цефамандол, цефоперазон, латамоксеф, chloramphenicol, Chlorproramidum, Glibenclamidum, глипизид, Tolbutamidum and other hypoglycemic drugs, griseofulvin, metronidazole, орнидазол, Tinidazolum, кетоконазол, Procarbazinum.

- medicines, the oppressing functions of the central nervous system.   

Simultaneous use of syrup with the medicines reducing formation of a phlegm and antibechic medicines of the central and peripheral action as suppressing a tussive reflex is not recommended, they slow down release of respiratory tracts from a secret, worsen aerodynamics of a respiratory path and processes of oxygenation of lungs.

The root of a glycyrrhiza can reduce effect of anti-hypertensive medicines.

It is not recommended to apply at the same time with purgatives as it can aggravate an electrolytic imbalance.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to medicine components. Diseases of a liver and/or kidneys, arterial hypertension, diseases of cardiovascular system, a hypopotassemia, alcoholism, brain diseases with decrease in a convulsive threshold, epilepsy, a diabetes mellitus, inborn intolerance of fructose, glyukozo-galaktozny malabsorption, insufficiency of invertase-isomaltase, children's age (up to 18 years), pregnancy and the period of a lactation.

Overdose:

Symptoms of overdose of a root of a glycyrrhiza are a liquid delay in an organism, the hypopotassemia, arterial hypertension, disturbances of a cordial rhythm, hypertensive encephalopathy.

Storage conditions:

In the place protected from light at a temperature not over 25 ºС. To store in the place, unavailable to children. A period of validity - 2 years. Not to use after the termination of a period of validity.
