Maltofer Fol

General characteristics. Structure:

1 tablet contains 100 mg of iron in the form of a polymaltose complex of a hydroxide of trivalent iron and 0,35 mg of folic acid.

Pharmacological properties:

"Maltofer Fol" - the drug containing iron in the form of a polymaltose complex of a hydroxide of trivalent iron. This macromolecular complex is stable and does not emit iron in the form of free ions. Maltofer Fol is similar on structure to natural compound of iron with ferritin. Thanks to such similarity iron (III) from intestines comes to blood only by active absorption. This property of Maltofer explains impossibility of overdose (and poisonings) with drug unlike simple salts of iron which absorption happens on a concentration gradient. There is a correlation between degree of deficit of iron and amount of the soaked-up iron (the deficit of iron is higher, the absorption is better). The maximum absorption of iron happens in a duodenal and small bowel.

Pharmacokinetics. The soaked-up iron remains in the look connected with ferritin, mainly, in a liver. Later, in marrow it is included hemoglobin. The iron which is a part iron (III) - hydroxide of a polymaltose complex, has no pro-oxidatic properties which are inherent in simple salts of iron (II).

Indications to use:

• treatment of the latent and clinically expressed deficit of iron (anemia)
• prevention of a lack of iron and folic acid, including to, in time and after pregnancy (in the period of a lactation).

Route of administration and doses:

The dosage of drug and terms of treatment depend on degree of a lack of iron. The daily dose of drug can be accepted in one step. The tablets "Maltofer Fol" need to be applied in time or right after food. It is possible to swallow of them entirely or to chew.

Treatment of clinically expressed deficit of iron (anemia): 1 tablet twice a day before achievement of normal level of hemoglobin in blood. After that, administration of drugs of iron has to be continued within several months for recovery of internal reserves of iron (1 tablet a day).

To pregnant women "Maltofer Fol" on 1 tablet daily during the entire period of pregnancy is recommended to accept.

Duration of treatment has to be not less than 2 months. In case of clinically expressed deficit of iron normalization of level of hemoglobin is reached only in 2-3 months after an initiation of treatment.

For treatment of latent deficit of iron and prevention of a lack of iron and folic acid appoint 1 tablet daily.

Features of use:

The notification for diabetics: one tablet contains 0,04 grain units. Negative impacts on a fruit during the first trimester of pregnancy are not revealed.

Side effects:

Occasionally signs of irritation of digestive tract, such as, for example, feeling of overflow and pressure in epigastric area, nausea, a lock, or a diarrhea can be noted. Dark coloring of a chair is caused by removal of not soaked up iron and not clinical value.

Interaction with other medicines:

Interaction with other medicines is noted.

Contraindications:

• excess content of iron in an organism (for example, a hemosiderosis)
• frustration of mechanisms of utilization of iron and folic acid (for example, lead anemia, sideroakhrestichesky anemia)
• the anemias which are not caused by deficit of iron (for example, hemolitic anemias or the megaloblastny anemia caused by a lack of B12 vitamin).
