Paramedic

The paramedic – the medical specialist having secondary education. Training of this profession is carried out in medical school. The homeland of the term "feldscher" is Germany. For the first time in the years of World War I thus called the field doctor. Work of the paramedic is a rendering the qualified pre-medical medical aid to the patient.

The paramedic work in various institutions, as as assistants to doctors, and independently where the doctor is not put on the state – and in it their difference from nurses. In particular, the position of the paramedic is provided:

  • On ambulance (the paramedic of ambulance);
  • In health centers of the big organizations (the paramedic of a health center);
  • In military units;
  • On big vessels of different function and the ships;
  • At railway stations (the paramedic of a health center of the station);
  • At the airports (the paramedic of a health center of the airport);
  • On medical and obstetrical centers in the villages in abbreviated form called by medical and obstetrical center.

The paramedic's profession differs in the little from the emergency doctor and the local therapist. These positions have much in common and almost identical duties.

Functions according to the instruction of the paramedic

The instruction of the paramedic includes the following duties:

  • Implementation of reception of patients in policlinics, and also service of adults and children at home with maintaining the corresponding reporting;
  • In case of threat of life or to health rendering the pre-medical help to the victim;
  • Observation of the patients who are on treatment at home;
  • Holding physiotherapeutic procedures on doctor's orders;
  • Participation in medical examination of patients;
  • Observation of a condition of the patients who are in risk group;
  • In the absence of the doctor-obstetrician, patronage of pregnant women, and also children since the birth and before execution of one year;
  • Observation of children from 1 and up to 2 years entering into risk group;
  • Medical participation in life of dysfunctional families, control over a sanitary condition of their housing;
  • Holding actions for timeliness of performance of inoculations;
  • On the instructions of doctors of the treatment-and-prophylactic organizations different holding sanitary and hygienic procedures;
  • Holding actions for prevention of operational injuries;
  • Participation in exit sanitary posts;
  • Control over the attached grocery stores, schools, hairdressing salons and other institutions in questions of respect for sanitary standards and the other duties established by the head within the acts approved by the Ministry of Health.

Paramedic of ambulance

The profession of the paramedic of ambulance is considered one of the most responsible. 

Great number of paramedics in the history of medical practice, having made the correct decision and having given first aid, saved life to the victim.

Having driven up to the scene, the paramedic in the first seconds makes assessment of a condition of the injured person, determining the volume of the necessary help, and immediately starts its rendering.

First-priority duty of the paramedic, according to the instruction, is obtaining the answer to two main questions:

1. who such victim;

2. what reason of a call.

Then other questions are specified and complaints of the patient are discussed.

Behavioural factors in work of the paramedic

Despite character of quite often difficult surrounding situation (nervousness of surrounding people, their shouts, vanity or opposite, unnatural tranquility) the paramedic of ambulance has to behave quietly and friendly, acting accurately, quickly, with professional confidence. It will help the patient to feel fallen into reliable hands and to calm down.

At the time of expectation of how the victim's organism will answer the entered injections or the accepted medicine, the paramedic of ambulance should communicate to the patient on abstract subjects. It will even more calm and will liberate the patient. Thus, the profession of the paramedic assumes also existence of skills of the psychologist.

Paramedic of a health center

Work of the paramedic of a health center differs from work on ambulance only in the fact that in this case it does not need to come on a call, patients usually come to it or bring them in point of assistance.

It is adequate to give pre-medical help, to organize if it is necessary, transportation of the patient in the nearest or hospital on duty, to issue the certificate of release from study or work until the end of the working day, to organize medical examination, to hold sanitary and educational events and to that similar is an incomplete list of duties of the paramedic of a health center.

The duty regulations of the paramedic of a health center include the duties similar to functions of the paramedic of ambulance, and also other requirements to work according to characteristic signs of the organization employer.
