Bioluminescence

Bioluminescence (Greek bios – life, belonging to life, to vital processes + lat. lumen (luminis) – light + escentia – the suffix designating weak action) – the phenomenon of a luminescence of some live organisms seen by an eye caused by process of their life activity; the bioluminescence, in particular, is used when determining level of content of ATP (adenosine triphosphoric acid) in biological substrates of complex structure.
