A haploid set of chromosomes (Greek haploos – single, simple + Greek eidos – a look; synonyms: an unary set of chromosomes, a gametic set of chromosomes) – set of chromosomes inherent in a mature sex cell which contains only one of each couple of the chromosomes characteristic of this species; at the person a haploid set of chromosomes consists of 22 autosomes and one gonosome.
