Vibrio(es):

  1. [Vibrio, Ber – determinant of bacteria of Bergey's manual of determinative bacteriology] – the sort of microorganisms which is entering into the Vibrionaceae family, including the gram-negative mobile sticks, direct or curved in the form of a comma equipped with one or two polarly the placed flagellums; as a rule, growing on the surfaces of liquid nutrient mediums; causative agents of cholera belong to vibrioes;
  2. (the French vibrion, from armor. vibro – to coil) – the mobile microorganism curved in the form of a comma.

Allocate a vibrio(es):

  • Mechnikova (Metschnikovii; synonym: Mechnikova a vibrio) the sort Vibrio microorganism similar to a cholera vibrio, pathogenic for pigeons and hens;
  • Cholera (cholerae) – a sort Vibrio species of microorganisms, is differentiated from other vibrioes on presence of a somatic antigen of OI; is the causative agent of cholera;
  • Choleroid (synonym: not agglutinated) – type of the saprophytic vibrioes similar on cultural, some biochemical, and morphological properties to a cholera vibrio possessing the general with it N-antigen, but which are not agglutinated O-serums;
  • El-Tor (Vibrio cholerae var. El Tor) – the biopitch of a cholera vibrio differing in resistance to polymyxin B and to a phage of the IV group, initiating hemolysis on blood mediums; is the activator of the seventh pandemic of cholera.
