Tirozol

Tirozol – the medicine oppressing products of hormones of a thyroid gland, applied at treatment of a thyrotoxicosis.

Pharmacological action of Tirozol

Active component of Tirozol influences a thyroid gland and oppresses products of its hormones due to blocking of enzymes (in particular – peroxidase which participates in iodination of a tironin).

As a result of Tirozol's reception:

• Removal of iodides from a thyroid gland accelerates and standard metabolism decreases;
• Activation of synthesis and secretion of thyritropic hormone a hypophysis increases (that sometimes is followed by insignificant increase in the sizes of a thyroid gland).

Tirozol's use is effective at symptomatic therapy of a thyrotoxicosis.

Release form

Tirozol release in the form of the light yellow round tablets containing 5 or 10 mg of Thiamazolum in the structure. In blisters on 10 or 25 pieces.

The drugs Mercazolil and Tiamazol-Filofarm belong to the main analogs of Tirozol.

Indications to Tirozol's use

According to the instruction Tirozol appoint at a thyrotoxicosis in the following cases:

• For treatment of a disease;
• By preparation both for treatment by a radioiodine, and to surgical treatment;
• At a long maintenance therapy (in exceptional cases, connected with the general condition of the patient or impossibility to execute radical treatment for the individual reasons);
• At the prevention which is carried out against the background of purpose of drugs of iodine (in the presence of autonomous adenomas, a latent thyrotoxicosis or a thyrotoxicosis in the anamnesis).

Contraindications

Tirozol's reception is contraindicated at:

• Granulocytopenias;
• The agranulocytosis which arose during the therapy which was carried out earlier Thiamazolum or carbimazole;
• Therapies by Tirozol along with left thyroxine at pregnancy;
• Cholestasia (including developing of a disease before an initiation of treatment);
• Hypersensitivity to thiourea derivatives, active agent (Thiamazolum) or auxiliary components of Tirozol.

Tirozol route of administration

Pill Tirozol according to the instruction is taken after food (in an initiation of treatment – it is desirable in strictly certain time).

At treatment of a thyrotoxicosis appoint in day from two to four tablets of Tirozol (10 mg) duration up to six weeks. After recovery of function of a thyroid gland pass to Tirozol's reception in maintenance doses – 5-20 mg a day (along with left thyroxine).

To children Tirozol, as a rule, appoint at the rate on 1 kg of body weight a day:

• Initial dosage – 0,3-0,5 mg;
• The supporting dosage – 0,2-0,3 mg.

Left thyroxine is appointed only if necessary.

At pregnancy Tirozol's use is possible only in the minimum daily doses, no more than 10 mg.

Duration of reception of Tirozol, as a rule, varies from one and a half to two years.

In case of the termination of treatment by Tirozol to an absolute recovery development of a recurrence of a disease is possible.

After the end of use of Tirozol the late hypothyroidism which does not belong to side effects of medicine in rare instances can develop, and it is connected with destructive and inflammatory processes in tissues of a thyroid gland.

At chronic overdose by Tirozol the size of a thyroid gland can increase, and also develop a hypothyroidism. In this case medicine is cancelled, as a rule. In very high doses (120 mg a day) Tirozol leads to development of myelotoxic effects.

Medicinal interaction

Strengthening of action of Tirozol according to the instruction is possible:

• At a lack of iodine;
• At a concomitant use with lithium drugs, gentamycin, Reserpinum, beta adrenoblockers and Amiodaronum.

At the carried-out treatment risk of development of a leukopenia:

• Increases – at combined use with streptocides and metamizole sodium;
• Decreases – at combined use with leucogenum and folic acid.
