General characteristics. Structure:

Active ingredient: nitroxoline; 1 tablet contains nitroxoline 0,05 g;
excipients: lactose, potato starch or starch corn, talc, magnesium stearate, aerosil, granulated sugar, povidone 25, titanium dioxide, edible gelatin, magnesium carbonate the main, macrogoal 6000, tropeolin Oh, acid red 2 C.

Pharmacological properties:

Shows bacteriostatic effect. It is active concerning a number of gram-positive bacteria – stafilokokk (including golden staphylococcus), streptococci (including beta and hemolitic streptococci, enterococci), korinebakteriya, gram-negative bacteria – neysseriya, colibacillus, a protea, klebsiyella, salmonellas, shigellas, enterobakteriya, some other microorganisms – mycobacteria of tuberculosis, trichomonads, and some mushrooms.
After intake it is quickly and completely soaked up in digestive tract. It is removed by kidneys in not changed look, at the same time in urine high concentration are formed (100 mkg/ml and above).

Indications to use:

Infections of urinary tract (pyelonephritis, cystitis, an urethritis, prostatitis, prevention of infections after kidney and urinary tract operations), an epididymite, the infected adenoma or a carcinoma of a prostate.

Patients with a renal failure (under control of a functional condition of kidneys) in connection with a possibility of cumulation of drug in an organism take Nitroxoline with caution.
It is not recommended to accept drug to patients with diseases of a peripheral nervous system and an optic nerve.

Route of administration and doses:

Inside, during food, washing down with enough water.
The adult – on 100 mg (2 tablets) 4 times a day, the maximum daily dose of 800 mg.
To children – up to 5 years – on 50 mg (1 tablet), 5 years are also more senior – 50 - 100 mg (1 - 2 tablets) 4 times a day.
Course of treatment – 2 - 3 weeks. Repeated courses are conducted with a 2 weeks break.
For prevention of infections at kidney and urinary tract operations – on 100 mg (2 tablets) 4 times a day within 2 - 3 weeks.

Features of use:

Urine during treatment by Nitroxoline gains saffron-yellow-yellow color.

Side effects:

Dispeptic phenomena, nausea, vomiting, skin and allergic reactions, general weakness, tachycardia, ataxy, headache, paresthesias, polyneuropathy. The specified phenomena usually disappear after drug withdrawal.
In case of any undesirable reactions consult to the doctor of rather further use of drug.

Interaction with other medicines:

At simultaneous use with drugs of group of tetracycline summing of effects of each drug, and with nystatin and levorinum – potentiation of effect is observed. It is impossible to combine nitroxoline with nitrofurans in an izbedaniye of negative neurotropic effect.

Contraindications:

The increased individual sensitivity, including to derivatives 8 oxyquinolines, a heavy renal failure (an oliguria, an anury), a liver failure, deficit dehydrogenase glyukozo-6-phosphate, a cataract, pregnancy, a lactation (for the period of treatment it is necessary to stop chest feeding).

Overdose:

At overdose strengthening of side effect of drug is possible. In case of any undesirable effects it is necessary to suspend temporarily use of drug and to see urgently a doctor.

Storage conditions:

It is not necessary to use drug after the expiry date specified on packaging.
To store in the dry, protected from light place at a temperature not above 25 °C.
