Remantadinum

General characteristics. Structure:

Active ingredient: 50 mg of Rimantadinum.

Pharmacological properties:

Pharmacodynamics. Remantadinum is effective concerning various influenza strains And (especially And 2 types). It is active concerning viruses of a tick-borne encephalitis (the Central European and Russian spring and summer) which belong to group of an arbovirus of the Flaviviridae family. The main mechanism of antiviral action — inhibition of an early stage of a specific reproduction after penetration of a virus into a cell and to an initial transcription of RNA. Pharmacological efficiency of drug is provided at virus reproduction inhibition in an initial stage of infectious process. Remantadinum has anti-toxic effect at the flu caused by a virus B. It is not effective at other SARS.

Pharmacokinetics. Remantadinum well, but is slowly absorbed from a GIT. The most part of drug is intensively metabolized. Plasma elimination half-life of blood makes 24 — 36 h. It is removed with urine: less than 15% of a dose — in not changed look, about 20% — in the form of hydroxylic metabolites. At a renal failure the elimination half-life increases approximately twice.

Indications to use:

Early treatment and prevention of flu at adults and children is more senior than 7 years; prevention of flu in the period of epidemics at adults; prevention of a tick-borne encephalitis of a virus etiology.

Route of administration and doses:

As remedy at flu Remantadinum is appointed according to the following scheme. Adult: in the 1st day — on 100 mg of 3 times/days; in the 2nd and 3rd days — on 100 mg of 2 times/days; in the 4th and 5th days — on 100 mg of 1 times/days. In the 1st day of a disease purpose of drug on 150 mg of 2 times/days or 300 mg on 1 reception is possible. To children aged from 7 up to 10 years — on 50 mg of 2 times/days; 11 — 14 years — on 50 mg of 3 times/days; a course of treatment — 5 days.

For prevention of flu drug is appointed on 50 mg of 1 times/days within 10 — 15 days.

For prevention of a tick-borne encephalitis of a virus etiology by the adult Remantadinum is appointed on 100 mg of 2 times/days with a 12-hour interval within 3 days. In some cases on doctor's orders — 5 days. Prevention with Remantadinum is begun right after a sting of a tick, but no later than 48 hours! To risk groups (the person living or being in the forest overgrown area) prevention of a tick-borne encephalitis for a period of up to 15 days is admissible.

Remantadinum is accepted inside after food, washing down with water.

Features of use:

At treatment of patients with a renal failure the drug dose decline is necessary.

Precautionary measures. At use of Remantadinum the exacerbation of chronic associated diseases is possible. At patients of advanced age with arterial hypertension the risk of development of a hemorrhagic stroke increases. At patients with instructions in the anamnesis on epilepsy and the carried-out anticonvulsant therapy against the background of treatment by Remantadinum the risk of development of an epileptic seizure increases. In such cases Remantadinum is recommended to appoint in a dose to 100 mg/days along with anticonvulsants.

Side effects:

At administration of drug pains in epigastriums, a meteorism, increase in level of bilirubin in blood are possible; headache, sleeplessness, nervousness, dizziness, disturbance of concentration of attention.

Interaction with other medicines:

Strengthens exciting effect of caffeine.

Contraindications:

Acute diseases of a liver; acute and chronic diseases of kidneys; thyrotoxicosis; pregnancy and feeding by a breast (it is necessary to stop feeding by a breast for treatment); hypersensitivity to drug.
