Exostosis

Description:

Exostosis – a high-quality bone outgrowth on the surface of a bone in the form of linear, spherical and other educations.

The exostosis consists of cartilaginous tissue, and ossifies like normal cartilaginous tissue therefore also the name "cartilaginous" exostoses not absolutely precisely transfers essence of process. In the course of ossification exostoses usually turn into a spongy bone which is outside put into a thin, but dense compact bone shell. The surface of a bone exostosis, i.e. a compact layer, is covered with a hyaline cartilage thickness in several millimeters. From this cartilaginous head there is also further growth of all exostosis.

Exostosis symptoms:

Often the exostoses which are slowly increasing and not causing pains are not followed by any clinical symptoms and remain imperceptible both for the doctor, and for the patient. Find exostoses accidentally, when carrying out X-ray inspection or at emergence of consolidation which is probed under skin or it is already visible at survey.

Exostosis reasons:

In an origin they are played a role by inflammatory processes, bruises, infringements, syphilis. The exostosis represents, generally, permanent educations, however meet where they decrease eventually and even absolutely disappear.

Treatment of the Exostosis:

Perhaps only surgical removal of the available exostoses. The indication to their removal is rapid growth, the big sizes, complaints to pain, cosmetic defect. Removal of an exostosis is possible from a small section (1-2 cm) that allows to leave independently clinic in day of operation. Use of modern methods of anesthesia, individual approach to treatment allows to return to a usual way of life to the minimum terms.
