Encephalomeningitis



Description:


Encephalomeningitis (meningoencephalitis) – an inflammation of covers and substance of a brain, characterized by disorder of functions of bark, the subcrustal and vegetative centers.

The disease proceeds in an acute and chronic form. Inflammatory process begins or with a meninx, passing to brain substance, or arises in the substance of a brain, with the subsequent inflammation of its covers. Perhaps simultaneous defeat of covers and substance of a brain.


Encephalomeningitis symptoms:


The clinical picture of a disease of an encephalomeningitis is very similar to meningitis. Patients complain of a headache, nausea, a fever, vomiting, high temperature of a body. The disease begins sharply. The short prodromal stage (several hours) is possible.


Encephalomeningitis reasons:


Encephalomeningitis bacteria (Listeria monocytogenes, Neisseria meningitidis, Rickettsia prowazekii) can cause, viruses (a virus of a tick-borne encephalitis, the Western Neil's virus) and a protozo (Trypanosoma brucei, Toxoplasma gondii, Naegleria fowleri).


Treatment of the Encephalomeningitis:


The main means of specific prevention of a disease is vaccination. Usually it is done at children's age. Also one of methods of prevention is chemoprophylaxis  (rifampicin on 600 mg each 12 h within 2 days).
From features of a current it is necessary to call high doses of antibiotics - to 500 thousand units on kg/weight of the patient with meningitis a day. Dehydration is the cornerstone of pathogenetic therapy, and also the disintoxication, anticonvulsant, anesthetizing therapy is used.
