General characteristics. Structure:
Active agent: minocycline hydrochloride of 50 mg; 100 mg.
Pharmacological properties:
Antibiotic of group of tetracyclines. Has bacteriostatic action due to suppression of synthesis of protein by reversible linkng with a ribosome subunit 30S of sensitive microorganisms.
It is active concerning gram-positive bacteria: Staphyloccocus aureus, Streptococcus spp., Nocardia spp., Listeria spp., Bacillus anthracis; gram-negative bacteria: Neisseria meningitidis, Bartonella bacilliformis, Vibrio cholerae, Esherichia coli, Klebsiella spp., Shigella spp., Acinetobacter spp., Haemophilus spp.; anaerobic bacteria: Clostridium spp., Bacteroides spp.
Minocycline is active also concerning Mycobacterium spp. (including Mycobacterium leprae), Chlamydia spp., Ureaplasma urealyticum, Treponema pallidum.
Indications to use:
Acne rash, nocardiosis, leprosy (as a part of a combination therapy); the infectious and inflammatory diseases caused by activators, sensitive to minocycline (including pneumonia, bronchitis, a pleura empyema, quinsy, cholecystitis, pyelonephritis, intestinal infections, an endocarditis, an endometritis, prostatitis, syphilis, gonorrhea, a brucellosis, rickettsioses, purulent infections of soft tissues, osteomyelitis, trachoma).
Route of administration and doses:
At intake the daily dose for adults makes 100-200 mg.
For children 8 years a dose are more senior makes 4 mg/kg, then 2 mg/kg each 12 h.
Features of use:
At reception with milk and dairy products minocycline absorption is broken.
Minocycline causes discoloration of teeth, a hypoplasia of enamel and a growth disorder of bones of a skeleton of a fruit and the child therefore minocycline is not applied at children up to 8 years.
Side effects:
Perhaps: vestibular frustration (dizziness, instability), xanthopathy and mucous membranes, hepatotoxic action, nausea, vomiting, candidiasis.
Interaction with other medicines:
It is not described.
Contraindications:
Abnormal liver function, children's age up to 8 years, hypersensitivity to tetracyclines.
Use at pregnancy and feeding by a breast
Minocycline gets through a placental barrier and is emitted with breast milk.
Do not apply in the second half of pregnancy and in the period of a lactation since minocycline causes discoloration of teeth, a hypoplasia of enamel and a growth disorder of bones of a skeleton of a fruit and the child.
Use at abnormal liver functions
It is contraindicated at an abnormal liver function.
