Diastematomyelia

Description:

Diastematomyelia - longitudinal splitting of a spinal cord on separate parts owing to growing into it of bone and cartilaginous partitions. Each half or a part of a spinal cord appears the covered own cover.

Diastematomyelia symptoms:

Clinical displays of a diastematomyelia combine symptoms of primary myelodisplasia and the symptom complex developing in process of growth of the child in the course of disturbance of natural proximal migration of a spinal cord at its fixing by a partition.

Noticeable already at early age (up to 3 years) researchers met deformations of a backbone in 62% of cases. Scoliotic deformations (42%) prevailed, a kyphosis and kifoskoliotichesky deformations met less often (20%). Signs of neurologic deficit are noted at 32% of patients.

Syndrome of the split spinal cord (diastematomyelia)

Treatment of a diastematomyelia:

Use the following options of operational tactics:
1 - mobilization of a spinal cord with the subsequent operational correction;
2 - single-step operation - mobilization of a spinal cord and the stabilizing / corrective operation;
3 - operational stabilization without neurosurgical stage;
4 - mobilization of a spinal cord with the subsequent stabilization;
6 - operational correction without neurostage.

The solution demands participation in process of treatment both neurosurgeons, and vertebrolog. Early diagnosis, active surgical tactics using modern technologies allow to achieve good result in most cases.
