Lixinum

Lixinum – a semi-synthetic antibiotic.

Form of release and structure

Dosage forms:

  • Powder for preparation of 60 ml of suspension (in bottles, in a cardboard pack 1 bottle complete with a measured spoon);
  • Capsules (on 10 pieces in a blister strip packaging, in a cardboard pack 2 packagings).

Active ingredient of Leksin – cefalexin:

  • 1 ml of suspension – 25 or 50 mg;
  • 1 capsule – 500 mg.

Also auxiliary components are a part of both dosage forms of drug.

Indications to use

Leksin's use is shown for treatment of the infectious diseases caused by microorganisms, sensitive to drug:

  • Osteomyelitis;
  • Prostatitis, urethritis, cystitis, chronic and acute pyelonephritis, bacterial vaginitis, endometritis;
  • Bronchitis, tracheitis, pneumonia;
  • Furunculosis, abscess, lymphadenitis, erysipelatous inflammation, pyoderma;
  • Sinusitis, pharyngitis, otitis, quinsy.

Contraindications

  • Breastfeeding period;
  • Individual hypersensitivity to components of drug and cephalosporins.

With care it is necessary to appoint Leksin sick with the instruction in the anamnesis to hypersensitivity to antibiotics of penicillinic group (because of risk of development of a cross allergy), and also at abnormal liver functions and/or kidneys.

Use during pregnancy is shown only according to vital indications and has to take place under observation of the doctor.

Route of administration and dosage

Powder:
It is intended for preparation of suspension for intake. Contents of a bottle need to be parted with the boiled water cooled to room temperature. Before pouring water and after addition of each part of water the bottle should be stirred up carefully to avoid formation of lumps in ready suspension. Water is added gradually, in three steps, bringing its contents to a tag on a bottle, then leave to infuse within 5 minutes. Ready suspension before each reception is shaken up. For administration of drug use a measured spoon.

Purpose of a course of treatment is made by the doctor on the basis of clinical testimonies and a condition of the patient. The recommended daily dosing for children is defined from calculation for 25-50 mg on 1 kg of weight of the child. For severe forms of infections increase in a dose is allowed twice, so at treatment of acute bacterial otitis the daily dose makes 75-100 mg on 1 kg. The daily dose needs to be divided into 2-4 equal shares and to accept through identical periods within 7-10 days. For exact dosing at reception use a measured spoon. Considering concentration of drug of 25 mg or 50 mg in 1 ml of suspension, at treatment of children till 1 year Leksin appoint on 1 measured spoon (25 mg/ml) or 0,5 spoons (50 mg/ml) 3-4 times a day. To children 1 years usually are more senior appoint drug in concentration of 50 mg in 1 ml: at the age of 1-3 years – on 1 measured spoon 3 times a day, 3-6 years – on 1,5 measured spoons 3 times a day, are more senior than 6 years – on 2 spoons 3-4 times a day. At treatment of skin infections, streptococcal pharyngitis or infections of moderately severe uric ways the dose of drug makes on 250 mg 4 times a day (with an interval of 6 hours) or on 500 mg 2 times a day. For achievement of therapeutic effect at the complicated forms of an infection increase in a dose is allowed twice. The recommended daily dosing for adults – 2000-4000 mg in stages through identical intervals of time.

Capsules:
Adults accept inside and children are more senior than 12 years. The dose and the period of treatment are appointed by the attending physician on the basis of clinical indications. The recommended dosing for infections of moderate severity – on 1 capsule 4 times a day (with an interval of 6 hours) within 7-10 days. At severe forms of infectious diseases increase in a dose up to 8 capsules in days is possible. The course of treatment of streptococcal infections has to last not less than 10 days.

For patients with an impaired renal function dose adjustment of drug needs to be carried out taking into account clearance of creatinine.

Side effects

Leksin's use can cause side effects:

  • System of a hemopoiesis: agranulocytosis, neutropenia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia;
  • Digestive tract: nausea, pains in epigastriums, vomiting, pseudomembranous colitis, disturbance of a chair; in isolated cases – increase in activity of hepatic transaminases, toxic hepatitis;
  • Urinogenital system: a vaginitis (including candidosis), intersticial nephrite;
  • Nervous system: dizziness, headache, excitement or apathy, tremor, disturbance of a sleep pattern, spasm;
  • Allergic reactions: itch, skin rash, erythema, hyperemia, Quincke's edema, Stephens-Johnson's syndrome, acute anaphylaxis;
  • Others: growth of a prothrombin time, distortion of laboratory indicators of level of glucose in blood.

Special instructions

It is necessary to consider the content of sucrose in powder for preparation of suspension at its appointment to patients with a diabetes mellitus.

At administration of drug during pregnancy cefalexin does not render toxic, teratogenic or mutagen action on a fruit.

Medicinal interaction

Co-administration of Leksin with chloramphenicol and antibiotics of tetracycline group is contraindicated.

It is impossible to take alcoholic drinks during treatment as cefalexin is incompatible with ethanol.

Drug increases activity of anticoagulants of indirect action.

Increase in nephrotoxic activity of drug causes a combination to the medicines having the expressed diuretic and nephrotoxic effect.

Terms and storage conditions

To store in the dry place at a temperature of 15-25 °C. To protect from children.

Period of validity – 3 years.
