Balanthidiasis

Balanthidiasis (balantidiasis; Xing: dysentery infusorial) – the protozoan infection initiated by an infusorian of Balantidium coli striking tissues of the large intestine and leading to their ulceration; the balanthidiasis can proceed in acute (b. acuta), subclinical (b. subclinica), chronic continuous (b. chronica continua) and the chronic form recuring (b. chronica recidiva); often the disease proceeds in the form of a carriage without manifestation of symptoms.
