Taufon

General characteristics. Structure:

Active ingredient: 40 mg of taurine in 1 ml of solution.

Causes normalization of metabolism of eye fabrics at diseases of dystrophic character.

Pharmacological properties:

Pharmacodynamics. Taufon is the sulfur-containing amino acid which is formed in an organism in the course of cysteine transformation. Drug promotes improvement of power processes, stimulates reparative and regenerator processes at the diseases of dystrophic character and diseases which are followed by sharp disturbance of metabolism of fabrics.

As sulfur-containing amino acid, drug contributes to normalization of function of cellular membranes, improvement of power and exchange processes, maintenance of constancy of electrolytic composition of cytoplasm of cells, braking of synoptic transfer (carries out a neuromediator role).

Pharmacokinetics. After instillations it is soaked up in microquantities. In body tissues is practically not exposed to oxidation. In a free look it is found in a liver, muscles, heart, nervous, brain fabrics, in blood (in uniform elements of blood — it is more, than in plasma). It is removed by kidneys.

Indications to use:

Drug is appointed the adult at dystrophic diseases of a retina (including a hereditary tapetoretinalny degeneration), cornea dystrophies, senile, traumatic, beam and other types of cataracts, and also at cornea injuries (as a stimulator of reparative processes).

Route of administration and doses:

At cataracts тауфон appoint in the form of instillations 1 — 2 drop 2 — 4 times a day within 3 months. The course is repeated with a monthly interval. At injuries apply in the same doses within one month.

For treatment of dystrophic diseases of a retina and the getting cornea wounds тауфон enter under a conjunctiva on 0,3 ml 4% of solution within 10 days once a day. The course is repeated in 6 — 8 months.

At glaucoma (open-angle) apply in the form of drops (instillation) 2 times a day in 20 — 30 minutes prior to Timololum instillation.

Side effects:

Allergic reactions.

Interaction with other medicines:

At patients with glaucoma (open-angle) considerable strengthening of hypotensive action in case of combined use of a taufon with Timololum is noted. Strengthening of effect is reached due to increase in coefficient of ease of outflow and decrease in products of watery moisture.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to taurine.

Overdose:

Overdose cases at use of eye drops of a taufon are not described.
