Niacin

General characteristics. Structure:

Active  agent – niacin – 0,05 g.

Excipients – a dextrose – 0,148 g, stearic acid – 0,002 g.

Description. Tablets of white color ploskotsilindrichesky with a facet.

Pharmacological properties:

Niacin is specific antipellagric means (RR vitamin). Improves carbohydrate metabolism, has vasodilating effect, including on brain vessels, has hypolipidemic activity. In high doses niacin lowers the content of triglycerides and lipoproteids in blood, reduces the relation cholesterol/phospholipids in lipoproteids of low density. Has disintoxication properties.

Indications to use:

Niacin is appointed for prevention and treatment of a pellagra (RR avitaminosis), in complex therapy of ischemic disturbances of cerebral circulation, diseases of vessels of the lower extremities (an obliterating endarteritis, a Raynaud's disease), a vasospasm of extremities, zhelche-and urinary tract,  diabetes mellitus complications (diabetic polyneuropathy, a mikroangiopatiya), liver diseases (acute and chronic hepatitises), at gastritises with the lowered acidity, and also at neuritis of a facial nerve, at it is long not healing wounds and trophic ulcers.

Route of administration and doses:

Pill of niacin is taken inside after food.

As antipellagrichesky means niacin is appointed by the adult on 0,1 g (2 tablets) by 2-4 times a day (the highest daily dose of 0,5 g). 

To children appoint, since 3 years, 0,05 g 2-3 times a day depending on age.  Course of treatment of 15-20 days.

To adults at ischemic disturbances of cerebral circulation, vasospasms of extremities, gastritises with the lowered acidity, neuritis of a facial nerve, wounds and ulcers niacin recommend in a single dose 0,05-0,1 g, in a daily dose – to 0,5 g. A course of treatment – 1 month. Repeated courses – according to the recommendation of the doctor.

Features of use:

For the prevention of complications from a liver (at prolonged use in high doses) it is recommended to include in a diet the products rich with methionine (cottage cheese) or to accept methionine, lipoic acid, and other lipotropic means. 

In the course of treatment by niacin (especially high doses) it is necessary to monitor function of a liver carefully.

Side effects:

Allergic  reactions are possible. At reception of high doses inside: a dermahemia of the person and an upper half of a trunk, paresthesia, dizziness, "inflows" of blood to face skin, arrhythmia, orthostatic hypotension, diarrhea, a xeroderma and a mucous membrane of eyes, a hyperglycemia, a hyperuricemia, a mialgiya, nausea, vomiting, a round ulcer, the exhausting skin itch.

At prolonged use - fatty dystrophy of a liver, a hyperuricemia, decrease in tolerance to glucose, increase in concentration in blood of aspartate aminotransferase, lactatedihydrogenase, an alkaline phosphatase, feeling of heat, a dermahemia (especially persons and necks), a headache, dizziness, an adynamy.

Interaction with other medicines:

Consultation with the doctor is necessary if niacin is applied along with other medicines.

It is necessary to be careful at a combination with hypotensive medicines, anticoagulants and acetylsalicylic acid.

Contraindications:

The increased individual sensitivity to drug. 

Pregnancy and period of feeding.

Peptic ulcer of a stomach and 12-perstny gut (in an aggravation stage), the expressed abnormal liver functions, gout and a hyperuricemia, severe forms of an idiopathic hypertensia and atherosclerosis, children's age (up to 3 years). 

With care:

Hemorrhages, glaucoma, liver failure, arterial hypotension, hyperacid gastritis, peptic ulcer of a stomach and 12-perstny gut (out of an aggravation).

Overdose:

Cases are not described.

Storage conditions:

List B. In the dry, protected from light place, at a temperature from 15 to 25 °C.
To store in places unavailable to children. Period of validity 4 years. After a period of validity not to use drug

Tablets of 50 mg.

On 50 tablets in banks of orange glass. 

On 10 tablets in a blister strip packaging from a film of PVC and aluminum foil. Each can or 5 blister strip packagings with the application instruction are placed in a pack from a cardboard.
