Levomekol

General characteristics. Structure:

Active ingredients: chloramphenicol, methyluracil;

1 g of ointment contain chloramphenicol (levomycetinum) – 7,5 mg, methyluracil - 40 mg;

excipients: polyethyleneglycol 1500, polyethyleneglycol 400.

Pharmacological properties:

Ointment Levomekol has the expressed osmotic activity, shows antiinflammatory and antimicrobic action. Chloramphenicol possesses a wide range of antimicrobic action concerning gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms, including staphylococcus, pyocyanic and intestinal sticks. Methyluracil increases the level of local immunity, induces интерфероногенез, strengthens processes of cellular regeneration, accelerates healing of wounds, has antiinflammatory effect. In a purulent wound polyethyleneglycol 1500 actively connects inflammatory exudate, sending him to a bandage with which liquid evaporates, and the released polyethyleneglycol 1500 molecules attach to themselves the exudate collecting in a wound again. Smaller molecules polyethyleneglycol 400 are capable to get into the middle of fabrics. Forming a complex with an antibiotic, polyethyleneglycol 400 works as its conductor in wound fabric where microbes are localized. Thus, against the background of use of drug elimination of perifocal hypostasis and clarification of a wound priskhodit from it is purulent - necrotic contents.

Drug possesses preferential local action, in insignificant degree gets through mucous membranes and skin. Therapeutic activity remains within 20-24 hours.

Indications to use:

Treatment of purulent wounds (including infected with the mixed microflora) in the first phase of a wound process, trophic ulcers, the decubituses infected burns, furuncles, an anthrax.

Route of administration and doses:

Ointment Levomekol is intended for external use for adults and children is more senior than 3 years.

Impregnate with ointment sterile gauze napkins which impose on a wound. Administration of ointment in purulent cavities through a catheter (a drainage tube) by means of the syringe is possible. In these cases ointment Levomekol is previously warmed up to 35-36 °C.

Ointment is applied from first days of damage within 4 days. Levomekol is not recommended to apply Giperosmolyarny ointment is long because it is capable to cause osmotic shock in the unimpaired cells. For 5-7 days of treatment it is recommended to replace ointment with the drugs recovering integrity of the damaged fabric.

Features of use:

Use of antibacterial agents for external use can lead to a skin sensitization that is followed by development of hypersensitivity reaction at further use of this drug outwardly or in the form of dosage forms of systemic action.

In the presence of purulent or necrotic masses antibacterial effect of drug remains.

Not to allow hit of ointment in eyes.

Use during pregnancy and feeding by a breast. As drug has no systemic action, its use during pregnancy and feeding by a breast not contraindicated.

Ability to influence speed of response at control of motor transport or work with other mechanisms. Drug does not influence ability to manage vehicles and to work with other mechanisms.

Children. Not to apply to children up to 3 years.

Side effects:

When using drug development of allergic reactions (skin rashes, an itch) is possible; irritant action (burning, a hyperemia, a Quincke's disease and other signs which were not noted before treatment). In such cases use of ointment needs to be stopped.

Interaction with other medicines:

Simultaneous use with drugs which oppress a hemopoiesis (streptocides, cytostatics, pyrazoline derivatives) is undesirable.

Contraindications:

Allergy to drug components; psoriasis, eczema, fungal infections. Children up to 3 years.

Overdose:

Cases of overdose are not known. When using ointment of Levomekol according to the provided recommendations the overdose is impossible. However long (more than 5-7 days) external use often leads to a contact sensitization.

Storage conditions:

Period of validity - 2 years. Not to use drug after the termination of the period of validity specified on packaging. To store in dry, protected from light and the place, unavailable to children, at a temperature from 8 ºС to 25 ºС.
